RS Information Systems (RSIS), a minority-owned firm that has climbed into the ranks of the largest federal contractors, has been awarded a $13 million information technology contract with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The contract calls for RSIS to provide NHTSA's Office of Technology and Information Management with LAN (local area network) information technology support, including installation of all hardware and software, on-site help desk, Web support, configuration management and network infrastructure operations.
Rodney P. Hunt, RSIS president and CEO, pointed out that the company is performing a wide range of technology services and related engineering support for agencies and offices of the Department of Transportation (DOT).
Hunt said RSIS provides LAN technical support to the Office of System Safety of the Federal Aviation Administration; technical support such as hardware and software integration to the National Aviation Safety Data Analysis Center; project management, development and deployment of software for web-based projects of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and a range of technical support to the Office of Accident Investigation.
"Our work for DOT also includes the nationwide promotion and public awareness campaign of the Auto Safety Hotline which RSIS took over in 1997 when the NHTSA hotline was receiving 23,000 safety defect complaints per year," Hunt said. "After RSIS put our awareness and outreach programs in place, the number of complaints to the hotline reached over 52,000 in 1999 and 60,000 in 2000."
A Washington Technology magazine survey last month placed RSIS 62nd among the Top 100 federal prime contractors based on revenue. It was the company's first appearance on the list. RSIS now has over 1000 employees nationwide, 60 percent of whom are women, minorities, veterans and handicapped individuals. Last year, its revenues doubled to about $80 million. The company provides advanced technical and business solutions in information technology, science, engineering and management consulting to government and commercial clients.
RSIS was named NASA's 2000 Minority Contractor of the Year. It has been cited by Deloitte & Touche, Inc. magazine and others as one of the fastest-growing technology companies in the country and is annually listed as one of the 50 fastest-growing technology companies in the Washington area.
