AsiaInfo's convergent billing and customer management software (AICBS) will be deployed in Chongqing and Sichuan for wireless data services provisioning, billing clearance and data analysis for business decision support. In the fourth largest province and the largest city in China -- with a total population of 114 million, Sichuan Mobile and Chongqing Mobile are serving a large base of mobile users.
AsiaInfo will also provide its messaging software (AIMC) and customization services to establish a connection between China Mobile's GSM network and its wireless Internet network, that will enable mobile users to enjoy an expanded scope of wireless data services. China Mobile has been a user of AsiaInfo's AIMC software since it adopted the software for its national backbone buildout in 2000.
Since the late 1990's, China's mobile market has been growing at an impressive rate, and the number of mobile users in China reached 85 million by the end of 2000. Wireless services providers are seeking new ways to take advantage of this large and continually growing customer base. AsiaInfo's products and solutions are positioned to assist carriers with this effort in a variety of aspects, including value-added services provisioning, customer management, decision support and other back-end functions. In the meantime, multi-service offerings will result in a complex billing clearance issue among mobile services providers and other telecom carriers, presenting an additional business opportunity for AsiaInfo's products and services.
James Ding, president and chief executive officer of AsiaInfo said, "The wireless data market in China undoubtedly offers tremendous business opportunities for AsiaInfo in 2001 and beyond. End users' favorable initial responses and carriers' continuous investment in infrastructure have been very encouraging." He continued, "AsiaInfo has been developing convergent billing product for the last two years, and the current market development further validates our vision and leadership in this area. By providing high reliability, availability, scalability, security and performance, our products and solutions will help wireless services providers to enhance their service offering, operational efficiency and customer relationships in an effort to maintain competitiveness in the increasingly deregulated market."
