CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 2001

Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC) and Tivoli Systems Inc., an IBM (NYSE:IBM) company, today announced an expanded strategic alliance that allows both companies to provide greater security management software to their mutual customers. Symantec is currently shipping several Tivoli Ready products including Prowler IDS, Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.5, and Enterprise Security Manager.

Under the agreement, Symantec will incorporate IBM/Tivoli technology into Symantec's management architecture for its enterprise-scale security solutions including firewalls, anti-virus and intrusion detection. Tivoli's SecureWay software portfolio will interoperate with Symantec's security management system, helping e-businesses effectively manage security threats, attacks and exposures across the entire enterprise.

"This new agreement with Tivoli allows Symantec to move closer to providing central manageability and greater interoperability for all of our products," said Gail Hamilton, executive vice president, Symantec Product Delivery and Response. "Mutual customers will be able to confidently manage Symantec's enterprise security solutions within their Tivoli management environment if they choose."

"Tivoli and Symantec's collaboration is an excellent opportunity to bring the best of our skills together to further ease the burden of enterprise management for our joint customers," said Bob Madey, vice president of market strategy and solutions, Tivoli Systems Inc.

Initial components of the Symantec/Tivoli alliance include:

-- Symantec has licensed IBM DB2 Universal Database and SecureWay Directory
Server to utilize within its security management architecture, enabling Tivoli
enterprise management products and Symantec enterprise security solutions to
become more easily integrated.

-- Symantec is now shipping a Tivoli Ready version of ProwlerIDS, combining the
power of network and host-based intrusion detection management and monitoring
capabilities with Tivoli's security and risk management console. The combined
solution gives network administrators the power to protect, monitor, analyze
and manage e-business infrastructure security.

-- Tivoli SecureWay Risk Manager is now shipping with an adapter for Symantec's
Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.5. The adapter allows Tivoli SecureWay
Risk Manager to read Symantec's Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition's event log,
presenting the information to the customer in a succinct manner. Information
gathered and displayed by Tivoli SecureWay Risk Manager, includes the status of
virus definition updates, historical information on scans and statistics
regarding the number of infections within an organization.

-- In addition, Symantec's award-winning, vulnerability management solution
Enterprise Security Manager 5.0 (ESM) is Tivoli Ready. The combined solution
lets organizations confidently assess the security of large distributed
environments.

The relationship underscores each company's commitment to the Distributed Management Task Force's (DMTF) Common Information Model and protocols and the Directory Enabled Networks initiative, which will allow the realization of interoperability via open standards. Both Tivoli and Symantec are Board members of the DMTF, which defines standards for information modeling for managed systems. Further information on DMTF is available at www.dmtf.org.
