Streaming Media West 2001

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 2001

Streaming Media West 2001 brought a multitude of streaming and digital media enthusiasts to the Long Beach Convention Center last week, for three days of making business deals, interactive information gathering, and networking. The Exhibition floor was buzzing with talk of digital rights management, MPEG-4, and enterprise streaming. RealNetworks and Microsoft were the front-runners in the DRM discussions and Sony demonstrated its new interactive online film and music editing tool, even though it will not be released until the fall.

Over 10,000 executives traveled to Long Beach for "The World's Largest Internet Audio & Video Event." In spite of the weak economy, the atmosphere was very upbeat and entirely business-centric at the West Coast digital media marketplace.

The Convention kicked off with an opening keynote by Rich Seidner, VP, Research and Analysis, Streaming Media, Inc., where he released the findings of Streaming Media, Inc.'s second data/analysis report, Enterprise Streaming - Return on Investment (ROI). Keynotes that followed included: Richard Glover, EVP Internet Media, Walt Disney Internet Group; Rob Glaser, Chairman and CEO, RealNetworks, Inc.; Gerry Louw, CTO, New Media Network, World Wrestling Federation Entertainment; Philip Schiller, VP, Worldwide Product Marketing, Apple; David C. Peterschmidt, President and CEO, Inktomi; and Russ Pillar, President and CEO, Viacom Interactive Ventures.
