SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 2001

Fairchild Semiconductor International (NYSE: FCS), the global leader in multi-market semiconductors, has been highlighted as one of the 100 best performing technology companies in the world by BusinessWeek. Evaluating firms on the key criteria of revenue growth, total size, shareholder return and return on equity, the magazine's much anticipated annual Info Tech 100 list can be found at www.businessweek.com.

To compile the Info Tech 100, BusinessWeek utilized financial data from Standard & Poor's Compustat, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies that has compiled data on 10,000 publicly traded companies. From that universe, BusinessWeek editors trimmed the list to information technology companies and added non-U.S. tech companies suggested by BusinessWeek's network of foreign bureaus.

"This year's list truly reflects the arrival of an era of efficiency within the technology industry," according to BusinessWeek editors. "The companies on our Info Tech 100 list have figured out both halves of the efficiency game: managing their company efficiently by the way they do business internally and growing their business externally by selling products that improve their customers' product technologies and bottom lines."

Fairchild's business model and growth strategy have inherently brought efficiency to its customer base and the company itself. Starting business in March 1997, Fairchild pioneered the multi-market industry segment. The company designs, builds and sells high performance, building block semiconductors critical to a wide variety of electronic products in a mix of end markets including computing, communications, consumer, industrial, aerospace and automotive sectors. With a focus on providing leading edge power and interface solutions through new product introductions, reduced product development cycle times, superior customer service and an aggressive acquisition strategy, Fairchild supplies more than 50,000 customers, has introduced more than 2,000 new products, increased market share in all product segments, made six acquisitions and tripled its revenues in less than four years.

"It's an honor to be recognized by BusinessWeek as one of the top performing technology players, especially considering the vast number of technology companies that exist around the globe and the fact they we are such a young company," said Kirk Pond, Fairchild's chairman, president and chief executive officer. "We're working hard to execute both our long- and short-term strategies, which have as their touchstones securing customer loyalty through best-in-class customer care and an ever-increasing number of new products to meet the latest technology requirements. Doing so has enabled us to earn leadership in the worldwide multi-market semiconductor segment, which is expected to grow to nearly $60 billion by 2003."
