MAINVIEW(R) Storage Resource Manager Allows Customers to
Manage Storage From One Single Console
From its global user conference, Learning Universe, BMC Software Inc. (NYSE:BMC), the leading provider of enterprise management, today reinforced its commitment to providing the only Application-Centric Storage Management(TM) (ACSM) solution in the industry by announcing MAINVIEW(R) Storage Resource Manager (MAINVIEW SRM). MAINVIEW SRM extends BMC Software's ACSM initiative to mainframe systems, allowing customers to manage all the various resources that can affect application availability, performance and recoverability.
The new solution, which is now generally available, leverages BMC Software's unique ability to manage all enterprise storage resources in the context of a business process versus offering solutions that manage single components of the enterprise. The introduction of MAINVIEW SRM further expands upon BMC Software's storage management initiatives to assure business availability.
"BMC has a history of offering solutions that provide application-management to the mainframe and distributed environments," said Chris Gahagan, vice president and general manager of Recovery and Storage Management, BMC Software. "We can proudly say that MAINVIEW Storage Resource Manager helps us round-out the company's application-centric view of enterprise management -- enabling management across the entire enterprise."
"These days, storage constitutes the largest single budget item for IT, largely due to management costs," said John Lynch, Sr., storage systems consultant for Norfolk Southern Corporation. "MAINVIEW Storage Resource Manager is the only solution that reigns in those costs by allowing us to manage all our mainframe components -- both system and storage -- from a single console."
Components of MAINVIEW SRM
-- MAINVIEW SRM StorageGUARD - Collects detailed historical information for storage performance and capacity, including response time, I/O rates and cache activity. -- MAINVIEW SRM Enterprise Storage Automation - Sends exception messages and initiates automation to give the storage manager complete control of the storage enterprise. -- MAINVIEW SRM StopX37/II - Maintains continuous availability by proactively preventing or recovering storage-related ABENDs or failures, and allowing jobs to complete successfully the first time. -- MAINVIEW SRM EasyPOOL - Delivers effective and efficient pooling, intelligent allocation and standards control that optimizes both performance and space use for all types of data sets. -- MAINVIEW SRM EasyHSM - Allows the storage hierarchy to be used economically, and helps storage meet business-driven availability requirements with minimal manual management. -- MAINVIEW SRM EasySMS - Delivers cost benefits by streamlining conversion and change processes.
BMC Software's new storage management solution, MAINVIEW SRM, is a part of the ACSM technology stack with PATROL(R) for Storage Devices, PATROL Storage Network Manager, PATROL Storage Resource Manager, and PATROL Application Storage Resource Manager, all previously announced.
