FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2001
Last week more than 1,000 attendees from 40 countries, representing 400 companies, participated in the sixth annual International Conference on Wearable Computing (ICWC) held May 30th and 31st at the Ritz-Carlton Tyson's Corner in McLean, Virginia.
The two-day event, which featured the unveiling of new wearable computing solutions, was hosted by Xybernaut Corporation (NASDAQ:XYBR).
Among the many news organizations covering ICWC 2001 were MSNBC, ABC, NBC, The Associated Press, United Press International, InfoWorld, Internetnews.com, Popular Science, and many Washington DC-area news organizations, including the Washington Post.
On May 30th, CNN Financial News aired a live interview with Edward G. Newman, Chairman, President and CEO of Xybernaut Corporation. Prior to ICWC, Time Magazine, USA Today, The New York Times and eWEEK all featured Xybernaut(R) products and applications, increasing world awareness of Xybernaut and its technology.
Presenters and participants at the ICWC included many technology leaders and early adopters of wearable technology from companies such as Texas Instruments, FedEx Express, IBM, Hitachi, British Airways, Bell Canada, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry, MicroVision, Minolta, Conversay, Cisco Systems and several branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Some of these and others presenting in "Users in the Real World" sessions shared their current experiences and their common belief that wearable computers represent the next major wave in technology. A remote tele-maintenance workshop featured both a helicopter and a tank.
The highlight of this year's ICWC was the unveiling of Xybernaut's new Mobile Assistant(R) V (MA V).
The MA V is an advanced wearable computer that provides lightweight, hands-free mobile computing, thanks to a new design that features a Texas Instruments (NYSE:TXN) (TI) on-board integrated programmable digital signal processor (DSP), ATI's Rage Mobility graphics processor and an Intel(R) Mobile 500 MHz processor.
The MA V is being manufactured by IBM Corporation, and provides an unparalleled processor speed, connectivity, mobility and power efficiency in a package that is almost 40 percent smaller and lighter than earlier models. The new product is expected to being shipping in mid-June. Pricing will start at $3,995.00.
