ON DEMAND 2001
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 2001
Charles Pesko, managing director of CAP Ventures, the leading strategic consulting firm for providers and users of business communication technologies and services, kicked off ON DEMAND 2001 by presenting a vision of the future of graphic communications. The trade show and conference, which is expecting to attract over 20,000 industry professionals, will run through Friday, March 2.
"Today, many Web evangelists predict that the future of the printed document will be short-lived, and that electronic media will dominate our world. Well, their forecasts are all wrong," said Mr. Pesko. "Paper is a powerful medium that will be with us for generations to come. History has shown that print media have evolved and adapted in the face of new media, such as television and radio, and the same will be true for the Web."
Mr. Pesko shared the stage with Bernhard Schreier, Chairman of the Management Board of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, where the two gentlemen helped to define the roadmap for the coming decade and discussed the transition of the printing and publishing industry. "As we enter the new millennium, the rate of change in our industry continues to increase dramatically. The industry now recognizes that our future is increasingly digital. The Internet is driving our industry on-line, and will change our fundamental business models," Mr. Pesko added.
During the three-day event, nearly 200 exhibiting companies will offer the newest products and services for the print for profit and corporate print professional attending. Dozens of companies will be launching new products including BARCO, Dayglo, Document Sciences Corp., IKON, Konica and AHT, Optimus, PrintCafe, Tekra, T/R Systems, WebPrint, Xeikon, and Xerox. Many of these products will help the industry look to facilitate a seamless and effortless integration of paper and electronic media.
"The growth of the Internet and use of digital technology will drive more digital print. CAP Ventures predicts that the retail value of print-on-demand will grow at an 18% compound annual growth rate, from $21 billion in 2000 to almost $48 billion in 2005," added Mr. Pesko.
CAP Ventures will offer nearly 50 information-packed tutorial seminars during ON DEMAND. Two new targeted conferences, e-Printing & Publishing and Dynamic Content add to ON DEMAND's dedicated digital printing and publishing conference to provide a forum for complete business communication strategies.
Commenting on the growth of e-Printing, Mr. Pesko added, "Today 17% of print is procured via processes that are partly web-enabled. Within 5 years, we expect 80% of print procurement in the United State to be in some way Web-enabled. By 2005, the Internet will play a role in the generation of a vast majority of print in the United States."
Sponsoring companies at ON DEMAND include Canon, Danka, Electronics for Imaging, Hammermill Papers, Heidelberg, Hitachi Koki Imaging Solutions, Inc., IBM, IKON, Indigo, Konica, Oce', Ricoh, Xeikon, and Xerox. To attend, exhibit or speak at ON DEMAND 2001, visit http://www.ondemandexpo.com.
