New Software And Resource Development Kits For CT Media 2.1 Speed

Vendor Applications And Technologies To The Market

As the leading enabler of next generation networks, Dialogic, an Intel company today announced the release of a new free Software Development Kit (SDK) and Resource Development Kit (RDK) for version 2.1 of Dialogic CT Media(TM) server software. Made to simplify the process of building applications and creating resources for CT Media 2.1 servers, the new development kits allow resource developers to quickly and affordably design the network interfaces and media processing required by next generation networks, along with the applications to run on them. To spur the adoption of standards-based platforms by a wide range of developers, Dialogic is now offering both the SDK and the RDK - previously priced at $45,000 - at no charge.

CT Media(TM) 2.1 Server Software

CT Media 2.1 is standards-based telephony server software that makes it possible for converged communications applications to share a server and its technology hardware. The software is unique in its ability to allow applications to be written once and deployed -- without modification -- on systems of different sizes, using different network protocols, and even different network fabrics. This makes it possible for a single converged communications server to support applications from different vendors and migrate those applications from PSTN networks to IP networks at any time.

CT Media's architecture is not just open for application developers, but for resource developers as well. Using the CT Media 2.x RDK, resources for CT Media 2.1 have been developed by Dialogic, speech technology developers, and other third party resource vendors - including Dialogic competitors. CT Media applications can then use these additional resources, typically without any changes to the application.

This open architecture provides customers with tremendous flexibility to build systems that meet their specific needs, and allows vendors to innovate around a proven platform.

SDK: An Administration Framework

The new CT Media 2.1 SDK provides an administration framework that for the first time allows application developers to design their CT Media applications to share system level data. This not only gives users a central point for managing their entire system, but makes it possible for changes to ripple throughout the system, automatically, even if applications on the system come from different vendors.

"The ability to manage a system from one single point is enormously valuable," explained Avi Greengart, senior product marketing manager, Dialogic. "With simple, centralized administration, customers can concentrate on providing value instead of on the mechanics of system administration. For example, CT Media systems might have a softPBX from vendor A, a speech directory from vendor B, and unified messaging from vendor C. If these applications are written to the CT Media 2.1 Administration Framework, the system administrator only has to add/move/change once, and all the applications on the system are updated."

The CT Media 2.1 SDK now supports an expanded line of PCI Dialogic SpringWare(TM) and DM3 family hardware, including building blocks for IP, media processing, network interface, fax, station interface, and conferencing. Dialogic has also incorporated numerous customer feature requests, including ISDN enhancements and improvements in call progress analysis.

Leading Dialogic customers including BrookTrout Software and Sound Advantage are already using the new CT Media 2.1 SDK.

"The CT Media 2.1 SDK has made it much easier to incorporate CT Media into our Show N Tel(TM) standards-based software development platform," said Mark D. Flanagan, president and CEO of Brooktrout Software. "Especially useful is the administration framework, which enables easy system management from a centralized point -- saving time and money for both our own internal development team and our customers."

"CT Media 2.1 is key to developing our open, standards-based, flexible, and scalable SANDi family of products," explained Dr. Peter Dingus, vice president, R&D, Sound Advantage. "With the new SDK, we are looking forward to bringing new versions of our products to market even more quickly than before."

Resource Development Kit

The CT Media 2.x RDK now allows any telephony resource -- hardware or host-based -- to be used within a CT Media 2.x server. Multiple CT Media-based applications from different suppliers can then use these additional resources. Developers can also be assured that whichever resources they choose will all work together in a single system. Vendors can focus on providing specialized telephony resources or greater overall value.

"Offering the CT Media 2.x Resource Developers Kit for free completely changes the competitive landscape. Developers can choose the resource that meets their specific needs, not just the resources their vendor happens to offer," explained Jim Machi, director, product management, Converged Communication Server Products Dialogic. "The RDK opens up the CT Media application market to technology developers with innovative solutions including speech algorithms, ATM boards, DSL boards, or other networking technologies."
