High-level system shortens development time for telecomm
and network applications
ACE Associated Compiler Experts announced that Toshiba Corporation Semiconductor Company has selected ACE's CoSy(R) compiler development system as its standard C-compiler development platform for its DSP processors. Toshiba has several groups within the company that will be using CoSy's flexibility and configurability to develop complex structures such as DSPs for telecommunication and networking applications.
Generally, only assembly language is supported for firmware development. However, demand for C compilers are increasing, particularly from DSP developers. Firmware for DSPs have become very complicated and unmanageable in size. This in turn has become a major bottleneck in development.
Most telecommunication system designs use the C language for system simulation, then port to assembly code for use in the DSP. By utilizing the C language for compiler development, the firmware prototyping and development time can be significantly shortened.
"We selected CoSy for our DSP C compiler development because it's a proven development platform in the marketplace," said Takeshi Yoshimoto, Manager, telecom LSI department, for Toshiba. "Major telecom players use CoSy with magnificent results, so we felt it was important for us to take advantage of such a comprehensive system. Our customers demand the best in all we do, and we are confident that CoSy will deliver for us as it has for others. We look forward to a long relationship with ACE."
"We are pleased to add Toshiba to our major customer network, and we trust that CoSy will meet or exceed all their expectations," said Marco Roodzant, vice president of marketing and sales for ACE Associated Compiler Experts. "ACE understands the needs of developers of complex and flexible architectures, and we focus our development on delivering the systems these companies need for compiler development."
