NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 2001
Viewpoint Corporation (Nasdaq: VWPT), the rich media marketing company, today announced that the Macintosh Beta version of the Viewpoint Media Player is now available. The beta version, available for download at http://www.viewpoint.com/create/e4emac.html, enables Mac users to seamlessly browse Web sites employing the patented Viewpoint rich media technology. A final version of the Mac plug-in will be available in the next few months.
In addition to supporting the Macintosh with leading 3D authoring vendors including Curious Labs(R), NewTek and Alias|Wavefront, Mac users for the first time are able to experience Viewpoint's high performance rich media on the Web. With the Mac plug-in, Viewpoint introduces complete functional parity between the Mac and Windows platforms, offering the same incredible experience for Mac users and content creators, regardless of platform or browser.
"When we first began the task of porting the Viewpoint Media Player to the Macintosh platform, we quickly realized the challenge facing us," said Anders Vinberg, Executive Vice President of Engineering and Technology for Viewpoint Corporation. "Viewpoint utilizes two-way scripting capabilities, which until now has never been possible in Internet Explorer on the Macintosh. It was important to us to provide the same unique experience for Mac users that Windows users have always enjoyed."
"Viewpoint's visual fidelity and seamless multimedia integration is unprecedented," said Scott Myers, President of Desktop Laboratories and former columnist for MacWeek. "By delivering true interactive functionality and an amazing experience overall, Viewpoint really did it right. I feel confident in saying that the Mac community is finally able to experience rich 3D media the way it was intended. When the necessary technology didn't exist, Viewpoint's engineering team would invent a solution. JavaScript in IE for the Mac is missing, even for QuickTime, but the engineers at Viewpoint filled in the blanks and created it. Viewpoint is the first media company to bring genuine, robust, interactive 3D media to the Web."
