Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC) announced today it won an InfoWorld Business Impact Award for its market-leading virtual private networking (VPN) solution, PowerVPN(R). Symantec was among several industry-leading companies honored for developing the best enterprise computing products.
InfoWorld selected Symantec's PowerVPN because of its power, flexibility and ease of use that is perfect for companies looking to implement a VPN in their existing network and security architectures. The award comes on the heels of a recent InfoWorld Test Center review praising PowerVPN's flexibility, interoperability and cost effectiveness. Earning an "excellent" rating, InfoWorld commended PowerVPN for its manageability, performance and compliance with international protocol standards. InfoWorld also praised PowerVPN's new, innovative personal firewall that blocks traffic to specified ports and ensures protection of always-on Internet services such as cable modems.
"We selected Symantec's PowerVPN for a Business Impact award because it can stand on its own and can operate with any firewall on the market, allowing for a quick and easy security solution. It is rare to find a security solution that is so easy to install and configure yet so rich in features," said Michael Vizard, editor-in-chief, InfoWorld. "We were also impressed by Symantec's release of a personal firewall with a VPN client that has varying levels of protection."
"To be chosen by InfoWorld from such a long list of technology products further validates our commitment to providing our customers with the highest level of security for open networks, helping protect telecommuters and remote office," said Barry Cioe, product director at Symantec. "PowerVPN offers the security and flexibility needed for our customers to successfully implement e-business solutions by reducing online access and management costs, and implementing the right level of security."
About The InfoWorld Business Impact Awards
The InfoWorld Test Center selects the finest enterprise solutions for its annual Business Impact awards. In each calendar year, products and services that received a score of "very good" or "excellent" in a Test Center Review are considered for the Business Impact awards. InfoWorld Test Center editors and analysts then nominate and vote in each category -- application development, e-commerce, enterprise services and infrastructure, mobile computing, and security -- for the products and services they believe had the most significant business impact on enterprises in 2000. No nominations for these awards are accepted from sources outside the Test Center.
