SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 2001

Intel Corporation (Nasdaq:INTC) today announced availability of a software upgrade for the Quick Connect and Modem-on-Hold features of the new International Telecommunications Union (ITU) V.92 standard.

The upgrade can be implemented on internal and external analog modem products using Intel's V.90 modem chipsets.

The V.92 Quick Connect feature significantly reduces the time it takes to establish regular dial-up communication. The V.92 Modem-on-Hold capability allows users to receive calls during dial-up sessions.

Software for the V.92 pulse code modulation (PCM) Upstream feature, which enables up to 48 kilobits per second (kbps) upstream data transmission, will be available in the second quarter of 2001. Intel will also release new software for V.44 data compression in the second quarter. The V.44 technique typically improves data compression between 20 and 60 percent beyond the existing V.42bis compression standard.

Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of computer, networking and communications products. Additional information about Intel is available at www.intel.com/pressroom.> -- Third party marks and brands are property of their respective holders.
