WebSphere Portal Server, software that enables companies to build next generation web sites, will include ScreamingMedia's SiteWare(TM) software, a client-side publishing and integration software application, and a 30-day free trial of ScreamingMedia's robust content products. Following the trial period, WebSphere Portal Server customers will have the opportunity to purchase any of ScreamingMedia's technology and content services.
"When creating WebSphere Portal Server, we knew we needed to partner with companies that could provide both the content expertise and technological resources to make this a seamless offering. Including ScreamingMedia's technology with WebSphere Portal Server will allow us to offer customers and their end-users an outstanding content opportunity, said Larry Bowden, vice president, e-portal solutions, IBM Software Group.
SiteWare will ship with WebSphere Portal Server to reach enterprises worldwide. "Many of the top businesses in the world use IBM's WebSphere software to build their web properties and, as is true with all their products, the WebSphere Portal Server will be a tool that becomes an integral part of enterprise infrastructure," said Kevin Clark, CEO of ScreamingMedia. "Providing SiteWare with the WebSphere Portal Server gives us immediate access to enterprises across the globe and will guarantee terrific revenue opportunities for us."
Once WebSphere Portal Server is implemented, customers will have the ability to use SiteWare to publish and integrate their own internal content or third-party content. This content has been aggregated, processed, filtered and delivered through ScreamingMedia's server-side infrastructure platform, directly into the WebSphere Portal Server via ScreamingMedia portlets, which are portal applications. In addition, enterprises will have the opportunity to utilize ScreamingMedia's Content!Connect service to manage the processing and integration of all their privately-licensed third-party feeds through SiteWare. The content created by the enterprise, aggregated from third-party feeds or harvested from the more than 3,000 publications in ScreamingMedia's global content network, will be available to end-users in the form of portlets and can be easily accessed over web and wireless devices.
