MORRISVILLE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 21, 2001

The E-Academy (Einstein Academy) Charter School (T.E.A.C.H.) was approved by a unanimous vote of the Morrisville School District Board last night.

T.E.A.C.H. will deliver high quality distance learning over the Internet for children who cannot or chose not to attend traditional school. The cyber charter school will serve 1000 K-12 students making it the largest cyber school in the Commonwealth. Classes are offered though the Internet, taught by live, certified teachers and taken in the student's home or alternative residence.

Pennsylvania residents between 5 and 19 are eligible to attend the tuition free school. T.E.A.C.H. provides a personal computer system, internet connection, textbooks, software and extracurricular activities to each student at no cost.

Last September, T.E.A.C.H. contacted 65 school districts to find a partner. "From the beginning, Morrisville School District had a unique commitment to improving public education." said Mimi Rothschild, the Coordinator of the Founding Coalition for the charter school. "Morrisville's School Board showed an unprecedented dedication to Morrisville's children while working with us to launch this charter school." Rothschild called Dr. John Gould, Morrisville's Superintendent, "a visionary, who sees the potential of technology to enrich children." Popkave, Chairman of the Board of T.E.A.C.H. said "All of the other districts just wanted us to go away."

The concept for T.E.A.C.H. grew from Rothschild's personal tragedy of losing a child who was critically ill and the subsequent two and a half year hospitalization of another child. "While my son was on a ventilator and hospitalized we saw the tremendous need that families and have for a connection to the outside world and for continuity with their studies." T.E.A.C.H. will bring the curriculum, live teachers and contact with their classmates through videoconferencing to children who would otherwise be academically and socially isolated.

T.E.A.C.H.'s challenging curriculum is based on leading educational publishers such as McGraw Hill and Addison Wesley. Rothschild says "The college preparatory curriculum is highly interactive, multimedia rich and individualized." T.E.A.C.H. allows students to learn anywhere, anytime and at any pace which is ideal for kids with jobs, teen parents or kids who require medical attention. T.E.A.C.H. will also offer advanced placement courses, remedial courses, and special education.
