HANNOVER, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 21, 2001

Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS) and Ericsson Mobile Communications today announced a licensing agreement to incorporate Citrix(R) Independent Computing Architecture (ICA(R)) technology in Ericsson's integrated mobile information devices, which will be designed on the Communicator Platform. The Citrix ICA Client for the Symbian Platform will allow Ericsson to provide users of the 1/4 VGA handheld devices - offering high-performance mobile Internet and multimedia communication - with access to applications running on Citrix MetaFrame(TM) servers over wireless connections. Users will benefit from access to full-function business applications, as well as mobile Internet browsing, messaging, imaging, telephony and personal information management while away from their desks and in transit.

Ericsson will demonstrate the Communicator Platform prototype at CeBIT on Stand D68, Hall 26. The Communicator Platform being shown at CeBIT is a fully working prototype, representing the platform on which Ericsson intends to build future commercial products.

"Effective mobile computing requires wireless devices that offer rapid access to business applications, both old and new," said Roger Baskerville, director, iBusiness Development, EMEA for Citrix. "Citrix technology empowers wireless computing users with access to the same rich, full-featured applications they work with at the office. We will continue to work with key industry leaders like Ericsson to provide optimal access to these applications over wired, wireless and Web connections."

The Ericsson Communicator platform combines the communication industry's latest technologies and features in one device. It is the first step in the creation of a new generation of integrated mobile information devices offering Internet and multimedia communication, including voice, data and images.

Citrix application serving technology extends the reach of Windows(R) and UNIX(R)-based applications to wireless devices, offering organizations a cost-effective, flexible method for making full-function business solutions available to mobile users. Citrix Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) Clients are provided for leading wireless operating systems, including the Symbian EPOC and Microsoft(R) Windows(R) CE and Pocket PC platforms, enabling applications running on Citrix servers to be accessed by users on a wide array of handheld devices. Citrix technology is a key enabler of successful application delivery in the wireless space through its ability to provide a full-featured, rich application experience over a low-bandwidth wireless connection.

About Citrix ICA

With more than 24 million users worldwide and 6 million concurrent user licenses since its introduction in 1995, Citrix Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) is an industry standard for server-based computing. Citrix ICA technology includes a server software component, a network protocol component, and a client software component. On the server, ICA separates application logic from the user interface and executes 100% of the application on the server. The ICA network protocol transports keystrokes, mouse clicks and screen updates over standard protocols to the client, typically consuming less than 5 kilobits-per-second of network bandwidth. On the client, users see and work only with the application's interface.
