RP114, the Latest in a Family of Routers That Block Hackers and
Enable Parental Restriction of Objectionable Internet Material
NETGEAR Inc., a provider of small business and home networking products, today announced the availability of its new RP114 Cable/DSL Web Safe Router with an integrated 4-port switch. The RP114 is NETGEAR's latest router in a family of Internet access products that enable multiple computers in the home to share an Internet connection via DSL or cable modem and protect them from hackers. The router also has new content filtering capabilities that enable parents to monitor and restrict their children's access to objectionable Web sites.
"Concerns over home network security are increasing and conventional NAT routers do not offer parents the ability to protect their children against
undesirable Web site content," said Patrick Lo, president and chief executive officer of NETGEAR. "The RP114 is simple, cost effective and takes just minutes to set up. Furthermore, many people are not aware that an `always on' cable/DSL Internet connection can make their network more vulnerable to hackers. NETGEAR's Web safe router gives home users peace of mind while enjoying the benefit of an `always on' Internet connection," Lo said.
The RP114 Cable/DSL Web Safe Router has a comprehensive Network Address Translation (NAT) security that protects home users against hackers and allows parents worry-free network administration. Parents can restrict the access to Internet content based on time-of-day and Web site addresses and receive logs and email reports on all browsing activity. Instant alerts also notify the parent of unauthorized Web page access attempts. Web-based instructions provide guidance through the installation process and enable users to get the network -- including Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems -- up and running in less than 30 minutes.
