Music fans should not be without Walt Disney Records' newly recompiled "Disney's Greatest Volumes 1 & 2."
Now available at retail, the two-volume series features 40 original recordings (20 songs on each volume) from Disney movies, television shows and theme parks celebrating more than 60 years of Disney musical magic.
Previously available over five volumes, the Classic Disney franchise brought favorite Disney musical moments to fans of all generations. The first volume of Classic Disney spent almost three years on Billboard's Children's Chart, and the five volumes collectively have sold more than 3.2 million units.
Now, Walt Disney Records has re-compiled and updated the song list down to two volumes with "Disney's Greatest." The 40 songs represent the very best-of-the-best that should be a part of every music collection. The collection now includes songs from the double-platinum soundtrack to "Tarzan," featuring Phil Collins, previously unavailable on Classic Disney.
"Music has always played a leading role in Disney films, from the time Mickey Mouse first tapped his feet in the pioneering sound cartoon `Steamboat Willie' to the present day. The nature of that music has changed, along with public taste, in the more than 70 years since Mickey played `Turkey in the Straw,'" said film critic and historian Leonard Maltin, who contributed special liner notes for the CDs.
"Even in the feature-film arena, we've gone from a time when the public scarcely knew the names of the people who wrote the popular songs in `Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' to the modern era when Disney soundtracks boast such marquee names as Elton John and Phil Collins," Maltin added. "When a song becomes part of the fabric of our language, that's an extraordinary achievement ... no less extraordinary, I suppose, than the classic Disney films themselves."
"Disney's Greatest Volumes 1 & 2" are available on cassette for a suggested retail price of $11.98; CD prices will vary according to retailer outlets. All Walt Disney Records audio products can also be ordered by visiting Walt Disney Records' Web site, www.Disney.com/DisneyRecords.
