Attendees a Glimpse into the Future of Network

Enabled Data Collection Systems

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 23, 2001

Lantronix Inc., the pioneer of Device Server(TM) Technology, will partner with Kaba Benzing at CeBIT 2001 to demonstrate a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) enabled ID Card Reader system. Prototype Device Server Technology built to support UPnP protocols is embedded in components of Kaba Benzing such as a Legic ID Card Reader and controllers, to connect to a client running Microsoft Windows ME and communicate over a network or the Internet for real-time access to data and remote management capabilities.

UPnP protocols were established to facilitate the development of easily connected devices and to simplify the implementation of networks in the home and corporate environments. To comply with UPnP standards, Kaba Benzing's Demo is built upon open, Internet-based communication standards. The Demo also features an added level of security, incorporating Axis Communication's Network Cameras that capture and distribute live images over a network or the Internet using a standard Web browser. All components in the Demo are based on open standards and could be used in commercial and industrial environment as well, e.g. Enterprise Data Collection.

"Lantronix has supported the development of UPnP protocols for the past two years, and believes the acceptance of open standards will help spread the adoption of Internet and network enabled devices," said Fred Thiel, CEO, Lantronix. "Lantronix welcomes the opportunity to work with Kaba Benzing and showcase our prototype Device Server Technology with UPnP support at CeBIT, one of the world's largest technology events."

Kaba Benzing is the leading manufacturer throughout the world for Enterprise Data Collection products. Its intelligent systems provide the highest levels of data integrity by offering a combination of terminals, sub-terminals and an access manager to provide optimal protection for facilities and buildings.

"Our demonstration at CeBIT gives attendees a look into the future of Internet-enabled systems," said Bertram Schmitz, CEO, Kaba Benzing. "With Lantronix Device Server Technology, Kaba Benzing was able to bring Internet connectivity to our most intelligent systems simply and quickly."
