CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 26, 2001

Island Data Corp., the leading solutions provider for the online customer service market, today announced that John E. Rehfeld, a highly successful and experienced PC, digital imaging and multimedia industry executive, has been named to the company's board of directors.

During his 25-year career, Rehfeld has held top executive and board positions with numerous private and public technology companies. His 1994 book, "Alchemy of a Leader," provided key insights into transforming business methods and knowledge from many countries into a world management style.

Most recently, Rehfeld served as chairman and CEO of Proshot Golf Inc., a $10 million private company providing wireless/GPS distance-measuring computers for golfing equipment, spearheading its sale to Inforetech Wireless. Previously, Rehfeld served as president and chief executive officer of Proxima Corp., a $150 million public multimedia projector company, assisting its sale to ASK-Norway.

Rehfeld said that joining the Island Data board of directors at a time when customer service is a key issue at every corporation is an opportunity he could not miss: "I am looking forward to working with the Island Data board and management team to help the company take advantage of the phenomenal market opportunities and continue its growing success."

"We are pleased to announce the addition of John Rehfeld to Island Data's board of directors," said Norm Williams, president and CEO of Island Data. "John's strategic vision combined with his leadership and marketing expertise guiding both start-ups and multi-million dollar enterprises brings added depth to the board.

"With his years of experience in top management positions, we look forward to his insightful guidance and active participation at a time when Island Data is poised for substantial growth in the integrated enterprise customer relationship management market."

Prior to Proxima, Rehfeld served as president and chief executive officer of ETAK Inc.; president and chief operating officer of Seiko Instruments America; and president and general manager of Toshiba America Computer Division, where he helped build the laptop business, creating a segment that generated $400 million in sales for Toshiba in 3 years.

He currently serves on the board of directors of Candle Corp., Global eSoft, Phat Rat, Seiko Instruments, Spruce Technology and Think Outside. Rehfeld is an Adjunct Professor of Marketing at Pepperdine's MBA program, and holds a bachelor of chemical engineering degree from the University of Minnesota and a master of business administration degree from Harvard University.
