Foundry Course Adds a New Dimension to GCS' Services
to the Integrated Circuit Design Community
GCS Inc. (Global Communications Semiconductor Inc.), a pure-play wafer foundry, today announced that it will offer a Foundry Training Course to advance the education of IC designers moving to GaAs (Gallium Arsenide) based ICs.
"GaAs has exceptional properties of lower power consumption, compactness and greater linearity compared to Si (Silicon) which is so needed in today's wireless and high-speed telecommunications products," remarked Owen K. Wu, president and CEO of GCS.
"Many Fabless Design Houses and IDMs (Integrated Design & Manufacturing companies) have very talented IC designers with experience in silicon-based designs that want to advance into III/V Compound Semiconductor devices and designs. GCS' technical team has a strong background in III/V Compound Semiconductor processing and has introduced GaAs foundry services to many IC designers. It came to my attention that many designers desired to work in GaAs but were unaware of how to get started," continued Wu.
This two-day course prepares IC designers to work in GaAs-based PHEMT, HBT Power and HBT Digital devices through the understanding of device models that are based upon GCS' established foundry processes.
Once the modeling is understood, the designer can adapt IC designs to take advantage of the superior electrical properties that GaAs provides. The course is currently scheduled to be held regularly, once per calendar quarter, and is being offered openly. The first course is scheduled for April 3 and 4, 2001.
Global Communication Semiconductors Inc., based in Torrance, is an ISO 9002-certified company. GCS provides compound semiconductor foundry services to the wireless telecommunication and high-speed networking industries.
It currently offers HBT and PHEMT foundry service for both InGaP and InP processes. Additionally, GCS provides epitaxial wafers, optoelectronic devices such as VCSEL and PIN diodes for fiber communication market and is delivering SAW filter foundry service for handset applications.
