HILLSBORO, Ore. & ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 2001

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and RadiSys Corp. (Nasdaq:RSYS), a leading provider of building blocks enabling next-generation Internet and communications systems, today announced that Fred Yentz, vice president and general manager, enterprise systems division, RadiSys, has received the prestigious Carter Award for the year 2000.

Created to recognize outstanding service in the public interest in the field of telecommunications, the award was given to and named in honor of Tom F. Carter, a great industry pioneer and founder of the North American Telecommunications Association (NATA), the predecessor of the MultiMedia Telecommunications Association (MMTA). The MMTA was recently integrated into TIA. Since its inception in 1978, the Carter Award has been given to 20 industry leaders to recognize their outstanding contributions to the telecommunications industry.

"Fred had tirelessly volunteered his expertise and vision to the association's market development programs. His efforts have been critical to the integration of MMTA into TIA and to the definition of TIA's new market-facing programs. I am extremely pleased to honor Fred for his distinguished service," said TIA's Vice President Mary Bradshaw.

Fred, who serves as chair of the Global Enterprise Marketing (GEM) Committee of TIA, has played a leading role in defining the importance for addressing the critical scarcity of convergence-capable professionals. Fred served as chairman of MMTA's CTI division, MMTA's vice-chairman and chairman from 1998 to 2000. He is a newly elected TIA board member and currently sits on the TIA executive committee.

"We are fortunate to have someone of Fred's caliber on the RadiSys executive management team. His combined industry experience in both the telecom enterprise and embedded markets has been a valuable asset for both RadiSys and its customers," said Glen Myers, chairman and CEO, RadiSys.

Fred came to RadiSys from IBM's Open Computing Platforms Group, in December 1999, where he served as business area manager. Fred spent 12 years at IBM with responsibilities for engineering, new business development and management. Fred is active in several trade associations. He has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Michigan Technological University; a master's of business administration with a telecommunications minor and a master's of science in computer information systems from the University of Miami. He holds three patents.
