RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 2001
Tamino(TM), Software AG's native XML database, was chosen as the Best Database Product by readers of the XML-Journal, the world's leading publication targeting XML professionals.
More than 5,000 XML-Journal readers cast their votes between October 1, 2000 and January 31, 2001. Tamino was chosen as the best database product ahead of Oracle, IBM and Excelon.
Tamino can store any kind of data - structured or unstructured. It is the first native XML database to store and process XML data without having to convert it to other formats and store it in relational tables first. As a result, response times are shorter and the setup of the database and the administrative effort required is significantly lower than with other traditional databases.

"This is a very important award for Tamino because it was based on responses from users of XML technology - our key target market," said Gary Voight, president and CEO, Software AG, Inc.
"Tamino is the model database for handling XML data and it can be stored and exchanged while maintaining its native format - making it ideal for use in Internet applications or in e-business transactions. It is also significant to note that Tamino was chosen ahead of some well-known names in the database industry," Voight said.
"We are just now beginning to aggressively offer Tamino in the U.S. market," Voight said. "It has been very successful in Europe and the initial reaction to the product in the U.S. has been very strong. There is a building demand in the U.S. for products which take advantage of XML technology and we expect Tamino to sell very well here," Voight said.
The Tamino XML Database is part of the Tamino Platform, which includes Tamino X-Node, an integration tool for linking relational data sources; Tamino X-Bridge, a message hub for the integration, routing, and transformation of XML documents from other applications; and Tamino X-Studio, a set of tools for easy development of XML- based applications.
According to the XML Journal, their awards are given as a result of SYS-CON Media's (publisher of XML Journal) unique and patented voting procedure, which is openly tabulated and audited for accuracy by an independent audit firm.
