SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 2001

Cahners In-Stat Group (http://www.instat.com) Tuesday announced that Nokia is among this year's recipients of the coveted annual Kachina Award.

The award was presented at In-Stat's 20th Anniversary Forum, which, this year, explores the buildout of the world's digital communications infrastructure and resulting access to intelligence. In years past, In-Stat has traditionally recognized the outstanding financial achievements of chip companies.

However, over the past couple of years the high-tech market research firm has ventured beyond economic performance and has taken an all-encompassing look at what really makes a company stand out from the crowd, not only in the semiconductor industry, but in the electronics industry as a whole.

An exclusive panel of electronics industry experts chose to recognize two companies in the industry that exemplified excellence in innovation, performance stability, market position and strategic direction.

"Nokia has made an enormous contribution toward fueling access to the wireless infrastructure and wireless market growth," said Roger Dunn, president of Cahners In-Stat/MDR.

"As the focus of suppliers that comprise the global technology industry has shifted from computing to the diverse array of networks, services and devices that allow us to access data, voice and video, Nokia certainly embodies the ability required to intelligently deliver an increasingly complex menu of applications and content."

The Kachina Awards were presented during the Forum's first day of presentations held at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs in Phoenix. Pirkko Karjalainen of Nokia's Ventures Organization accepted the specially commissioned, authentic hand-carved Kachina doll award.

Nokia is the world leader in mobile communications. Backed by its experience, innovation, user-friendliness and secure solutions, the company has become the leading supplier of mobile phones and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks.

Nokia joins the ranks of other distinguished Kachina Award winners over the past 14 years such as: Broadcom, Ericsson, Texas Instruments, STMicroelectronics, PMC-Sierra, Linear Technology, Micron Technology, Xilinx, Intel, Cirrus Logic, Cypress Semiconductor, Weitek and Chips & Technologies.

Cahners In-Stat Group (http://www.instat.com/) covers the full spectrum of digital communications research from vendor to end-user, providing the analysis and perspective that allows technology vendors and service providers worldwide to make more informed business decisions.

In-Stat is a unit of Cahners Business Information (www.cahners.com), a leading provider of critical information and marketing solutions to business professionals and a member of the Reed Elsevier plc group.
