NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2001
VelociGen Inc. Tuesday announced the availability of one of the first open-platform Web Services development and delivery environments for IBM's Websphere(R) Application Server, called VelocigenX(TM).
A demonstration of the new environment was given at IBM's "Dynamic e-Business" announcement in New York City on May 14, in which IBM unveiled its strategy for integrating dynamic, Internet-driven content with corporate e-Business processes.
VelociGenX is an innovative new Web services application development and runtime platform that uses XML technology to provide true anything-to-anything application connectivity. It extends the capabilities of WebSphere by allowing businesses to develop reusable Web Services solutions that incorporate data in any format (C, C , scripting, etc.) in addition to Java. By converting heterogeneous data to XML, VelociGenX removes all restrictions on the source of data being integrated, type of transaction being conducted, desired deployment, or scalability. (A detailed whitepaper is available at http://www.velocigen.com/whitepapers).
"Together, WebSphere and VelociGenX help companies create the types of dynamic e-Business solutions they need to Web-enable their core business processes," said Josh Marks, CEO of VelociGen. "Because these solutions cross every platform and system, IBM and VelociGen are working together to provide the first agnostic, rapid-deployment platform that IT staff can use to solve everyday e-Business challenges."
"Today's announcement with VelociGen underscores IBM's commitment to working with our Business Partners to deliver best-of-breed Dynamic e-Business solutions for our customers," said Scott Hebner, director of marketing, WebSphere, IBM Software. "IBM is pleased to work with VelociGen to concentrate on the development of open standards that best serve our customers, and to serve as a technology catalyst around which innovative companies like VelociGen rally."
With VelociGenX, companies can easily and cost-effectively "Wrap, Link, and Run," Web service meta-applications, or wrapplets, from both legacy and dynamic data sources. As a result, business-critical information that had previously been held captive in separate applications can now be liberated, combined with data from other sources, and deployed as part of Internet-wide meta-applications. With VelociGenX, powerful, flexible meta-applications can be developed in minutes, simply by:
-- Wrapping the desired data and applications -- from an unlimited number of sources or formats -- into reusable XML components; -- Linking the XML components together, to form a meta-application (or wrapplet,) and -- Running the finished meta-applications that return all of the linked information...and then deliver the results via a browser, e-mail, PDA, pager, or cell phone.
Once these XML components or resulting wrapplets are created, they can be easily archived, copied, modified, and reused however the user wishes. This virtually eliminates the need for custom programming, since the same wrapplets can be used over and over, with minimal customization. They can also be published for commercial distribution on a peer-to-peer basis, allowing user to create transaction- and usage-based based revenue streams. Pricing for development and run-time licenses of VelociGenX begin at $50,000.
Based in San Diego, VelociGen Inc. is the leading provider of open, XML-based Web Services development solutions that enable businesses to interchangeably use both dynamic and legacy data from any source. VelociGen's products allow the complete interoperability of disassociated data and applications, as well as the ability to deliver business-critical information to any wired or wireless device.
