MOD Norway has Decided to Award a Major International Combat Training Centre Contract to Saab Training Systems

The Norwegian Ministry of Defence, has awarded Saab Training Systems, Huskvarna Sweden, a substantial Turn-key contract for the Norwegian Army Combat Manouvre Training Centre (NACMTC) located at Camp Rena, with deliveries beginning in 2003.
The contract value is over 470 million Swedish kronor
The decision to award the NACMTC contract to Saab follows a procurement process in full international competition. The contract value, over 470 million Swedish kronor, is mainly equipment supplies also including operational and logistic support for 5 years.
The NACMTC system will allow the Norwegian Army to increase military Force and Unit operational combat effectiveness, increase training effectiveness of combat maneuvers and increase personnel skills, motivation, and confidence.
The equipment consists of the following major systems:
- High fidelity Direct Fire Weapons Effect Simulators that provide the realism and fidelity required in all types of training. Weapon procedures and handling must be followed strictly by the crews and gunners in order to be successful on the battlefield
- Exercise Control that provides the tools and functionality for planning and preparation, initialisation, exercise execution, analysis and evaluation of exercises.
- Area Weapon Effects Simulation that implements the functionality necessary to simulate and control indirect fire events including artillery, mortar, anti-tank mines and chemical weapons
- After Action Review system for preparing and conducting an efficient debrief
In 2000, Saab Training Systems was awarded a contract for a combat training centre in the Netherlands and a contract for a deployable combat training system for the US Army in Europe. Procurement of similar training centres is currently under way in several other countries.
