VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2001
POPstar Communications, Inc. (POPstar), a global IP messaging solutions and service provider, announced the signing of a Service Provision Partner Agreement to provide its Fax over Internet Protocol (FoIP) messaging solution to Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd., Taiwan's national telephone company and leader in telecommunications.
Under the agreement, POPstar agrees to license its fax messaging software to Chunghwa Telecom to enable Chunghwa to offer Web to Fax as an introductory service to its customers. Web to Fax allows users to originate fax calls using a browser such as Netscape Navigator(TM) or MS Internet Explorer(TM). Fax messages are then securely transported over the Internet and delivered to a destination fax machine. Other fax services such as Email to Fax, Fax to Email and Fax to Fax which are supported by POPstar's software, are expected to be introduced by Chunghwa later this year.
"FoIP is one of POPstar's many value-add IP messaging services and we are proud to provide such an essential service to Chunghwa Telecom," stated Joseph Brongo, POPstar's General Manager -- Asia Pacific. "Our FoIP technology and experience in the FoIP market allows us to provide a very reliable FoIP delivery service to Chunghwa Telecom. Chunghwa provides POPstar a vital and reputable partner to terminate POPstar's long-distance fax traffic to Taiwan."
Chunghwa will terminate fax messaging traffic to destinations within Taiwan from POPstar's global network of partners, which include ISPs and Carriers in other countries. POPstar is building a global network of partners through its FoIP/VoIP Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse utilizes the Open Settlement Protocol (OSP) to provide authentication, fax/voice call setup and routing, settlement and revenue sharing services among POPstar Clearinghouse members.
Mr. Kuwei-Pi Hsu, President, Chunghwa Telecom's Data Communication Business Group states, "We are deploying our business strategy to become a major IP Messaging player and we are offering value added services, like FoIP, to our customers. We selected POPstar's solution because it leverages our network resources and because it proved very reliable after vigorous testing. POPstar also provides us with a single source of integrated messaging solutions and a migration path to adding more messaging services as they are needed."
In addition to FoIP, POPstar's other messaging software products and services include POP3, IMAP and Web-based Email, VoIP and FoIP/VoIP Clearinghouse services. POPstar's messaging software is SPARC-based and supports Brooktrout, CISCO and Lucent platforms and is designed to leverage networks deploying this hardware. POPstar's messaging solutions are standards-based, supporting T.37/T.38, OSP, LDAP, SSL, PKI, H.323 and more. Users of the services can be securely authenticated and each service is trackable and billable to the user. Turnkey user provisioning and billing solutions for managing and processing on-line pre- and post-pay user billing of the messaging services are supported. Other unique features include the automatic conversion of popular MS Office file formats and languages such as Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Each service can also be branded and customized to reflect the customer's site using APIs and development tools.
