Top Footwear and Apparel Company Selects Chelsea Interactive and
BroadVision To Create a One-Stop Direct-to-Consumer Solution
BroadVision (Nasdaq:BVSN), a leader in personalized e-business applications, announced today that Chelsea Interactive, Inc. selected BroadVision(R) software to power footwear and apparel giant The Timberland Company's (NYSE:TBL), Timberland.com, MountainAthletics.com and TimberlandPRO.com online stores, which began operation on May 15th. As part of Chelsea Interactive's e-commerce platform, BroadVision's suite of e-business applications -- including BroadVision One-To-One(R) Enterprise(TM), BroadVision Retail Commerce(TM) and BroadVision Command Center -- is providing a new online distribution channel for Timberland while reducing its reliance on expensive customer service centers.
Chelsea Interactive, which also manages Timberland's corporate Web site, chose BroadVision's e-commerce capabilities for Timberland's overall transaction and database management needs, creating a one-stop e-commerce solution for Timberland, Mountain Athletics and Timberland PRO. This solution, incorporating e-commerce design, development, fulfillment and customer service features, provides each Timberland brand with a unique, direct-to-consumer online store.
"Timberland values customer relationships at the core of our business, and we recognize that it is essential to be prepared for a high volume of users who will expect a personalized shopping experience," said Ken Pucker, Executive Vice President of Timberland. "We concluded that Chelsea Interactive's model, powered by BroadVision, offered us a world-class experience for our consumers as well as a great value for our shareholders. Our strategy is designed to leverage the Internet as a vehicle for consumer insight. Our ability to experiment and learn how consumers interact with the brand in such a data-rich environment will provide us with critical insight that will benefit us across all of our distribution channels."
Using BroadVision's Command Center tool, Chelsea Interactive has taken over the management of Timberland's corporate web site, which features job listings, human resources and employee benefit information, community relations and corporate culture pages. With Command Center, Timberland has the capability to self-manage the content of the corporate Web site, eliminating the need for a third-party service provider.
"BroadVision's software will play a key role in automating sales processes and driving overall IT cost reduction for Timberland," said William Bloom, Vice Chairman of Chelsea Property Group. "The BroadVision-powered sites have created a new revenue stream for Timberland while giving them the flexibility to easily update and change their Web content moving forward."
"Chelsea Interactive and BroadVision have a long-standing relationship working with retail brands such as Maidenform, Elisabeth by Liz Claiborne and Cole Haan," said Chris Grejtak, Chief Marketing Officer of BroadVision, Inc. "Timberland is further evidence of BroadVision's strength in the retail sector."
Chelsea Interactive's e-commerce platform, powered by BroadVision applications, allows top brand names such as Timberland, Elisabeth by Liz Claiborne, Cole Haan and Maidenform to quickly build and easily manage their own customized online stores. Each brand operates its online store independently, according to its own marketing, merchandising and technological specifications, a capability critical to maintaining individual product image.
