The Unisys e-@ction Enterprise Server ES7000 delivers the most seamless upgrade path available for businesses incorporating the Intel Itanium processor with Microsoft's 64-bit Windows Advanced Server Limited Edition operating system, Unisys said today.
The ES7000 server is the ideal platform for businesses to introduce Intel's Itanium processor into their organizations, especially to manage large, memory-intensive database and data warehouse applications.
Leveraging the Itanium chip's power, the ES7000's flexible and open Cellular MultiProcessing (CMP) architecture enhances memory functionality and I/O capacity, boosting overall performance. The ES7000's scalability also is ideal for newly developed 64-bit applications, many of which will require enhanced memory management and increased I/O capacity.
Utilizing the ES7000's powerful partitioning capabilities, Intel Itanium processors and Pentium III Xeon processors can run side-by-side within one server. This enables users to run existing 32-bit-based applications while developing and testing 64-bit-based applications on the same machine, easing the upgrade process.

The ES7000 server will support up to 32 Itanium processors running at 800 MHz and addressing up to 64 GB of memory. Unisys expects limited system availability this year and general customer availability of CMP enterprise systems featuring the Intel Itanium processors in the first quarter of 2002.
