PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 29, 2001

PeopleSoft Inc. (Nasdaq: PSFT) today announced the general availability of PeopleSoft 8 Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), a pure internet solution that enables organizations to effectively manage supplier relationships through a roles-based, collaborative portal.

For the first time, organizations can use a single, comprehensive solution to manage complex supplier relationships that drive competitive advantage. PeopleSoft's approach enables the management of all types of supplier relationships, including collaborative design, planning, and sourcing. To enable collaboration, PeopleSoft provides technologies which facilitate deployment of an online supplier portal, direct XML, on-ramps to exchanges, as well as traditional Electronic Data Interchanges.

Embedded analytics help organizations quickly evaluate the strategic value of their suppliers by providing insight into key supplier performance metrics. With the ability to access critical performance indicators instantaneously, companies can continuously monitor their business processes ensuring effective management of supplier relationships across the enterprise.

PeopleSoft 8 SRM utilizes PeopleSoft's industry-leading portal technology, bringing an organization's customers, suppliers, and employees directly into critical day-to-day business processes. Benefits of real-time interaction are significant and include: reduced costs in product design; improved time to market; and faster response to changes in customer demand.

"We've been looking for a solution that would give us the ability to manage critical supplier relationships in real-time," said Gerry Gluscic, CIO and vice president of Information Technology at Borden Foods. "PeopleSoft 8 SRM will give companies like Borden a competitive advantage by improving business processes and reducing operational costs."

In a research note titled "Supplier Relationship Management: Why Does It Matter?" Gartner, Inc. states, "Very few companies have a systematic approach to supplier evaluation, selection and ongoing relationship management today. Instead, most have disparate supplier management processes throughout their companies... Gartner recommends that companies strive to put SRM methodologies and practices in place to improve profitability... By 2005, Fortune 500 enterprises will move strongly to SRM methodologies or they will incur profit reductions of close to 2%."(1)

"PeopleSoft 8 SRM expands the boundaries of supplier collaboration," said Mike Frandsen, vice president and general manager of PeopleSoft's Supply Chain Division. "By incorporating customers, suppliers, and employees into the procurement process, companies are no longer limited to indirect procurement and basic exchange."
