SightSound Technologies Hosts State House Appropriations Chair

Business Wire, May 30, 2001

Entertainment & High-Tech Editors

MT. LEBANON, Pa.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--May 30, 2001

SightSound Technologies will play host to a visit from Pennsylvania House of Representatives Appropriations Chairman John Barley and Mt. Lebanon State Representative Tom Stevenson on Wednesday, May 30th, 2001 at 11:45am.

Stevenson encouraged Barley to visit the Mt. Lebanon based company after his tour of their facility last month.

"After visiting SightSound Technologies, I realized that they are a hidden gem," Stevenson said. "Pennsylvania companies like SightSound need to be brought to the attention of our leadership in Harrisburg. Leaders like Chairman Barley need to be doing what they can to ensure the future viability of companies like SightSound."

SightSound Technologies is a video and audio download and file-share electronic commerce company supporting the motion picture and music industries as they adopt digital distribution. SightSound Technologies provides its services to the motion picture industry through relationships with companies like Miramax Films, which has released the first of twelve movies for Internet download; Comedy Central, which is distributing collectible episodes of "South Park"; Metafilmics, the producers of Quantum Project, the first movie created exclusively for worldwide Internet distribution through SightSound Technologies; and WQED Pittsburgh, which is distributing locally produced videos. SightSound has also developed a digital cinema system for electronic distribution of movies into theaters, which is an extension of the system used to digitally distribute movies to consumers.

SightSound Technologies sold the first music online in 1995 and rented the first full-length movie online in 1999, contributing to Pittsburgh's rich history of media industry innovation -- including KDKA's first commercial radio broadcast and WQED as the country's first community-owned television station.

Representatives Stevenson and Barley will discuss SightSound's technology and potential economic impact on the region and the state. The representatives will also tour the facility, meeting with employees and watching demonstrations of SightSound's technology developments in the area of the digital delivery of movies and music.

"SightSound is pleased to host this visit to demonstrate our contribution to Pittsburgh's new technology landscape," said Scott Sander, President and CEO of SightSound Technologies.
