BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2001
Sensormatic Electronics Corporation (NYSE:SRM) today announced that it has partnered with Productivity Solutions, Inc. (PSI), a leading manufacturer and distributor of automated self-checkout systems, to incorporate the UltraMax(R) anti-theft technology into PSI's ACM(R) Self Checkout systems for food and discount store retailers.
The new ACM Self Checkout systems, which process both full and express size orders and handle cash, credit and debit payment at the lane, enable shoppers to seamlessly deactivate UltraMax anti-theft labels whenever they self-scan a legitimate purchase at the point-of-sale, without the need of sales assistance. This allows retailers who currently utilize Sensormatic's UltraMax anti-theft technology to take advantage of the ease and convenience of self checkout while still providing secure anti-theft protection for their merchandise.
"We are excited to be working with Sensormatic to provide flexible, secure self-checkout solutions to food and discount store retailers," said Patty Pepper, vice president of operations for PSI. "As the leader in electronic security, Sensormatic's strong retail partnerships and customer base will be a big advantage going forward in providing retailers with the most complete self-checkout solutions."
The combined systems are currently being installed in nearly 70 food and discount stores located throughout the United States that are currently using Sensormatic's UltraMax anti-theft systems. The fastest growing anti-theft technology in the world, UltraMax is used by many of the nation's leading retailers including Wal-Mart, Kmart, Giant Eagle, Fred Meyer, Ames Department Stores, CVS, Vitamin Shoppe and The Home Depot among others.
"One of our most important goals is to provide customers with the products they need to run their businesses more efficiently, and self checkout is clearly a concept that retailers are embracing due to the speed and ease that it offers shoppers," said Per-Olof Loof, president and CEO of Sensormatic. "By combining our UltraMax anti-theft technology with PSI's ACM Self Checkout systems, food and discount retailers can take advantage of self checkout while providing the highest level of theft protection for their merchandise."
