LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 2001
Networking Solutions Provide Complete Resource for
IT/AV Asset Managers
InFocus(R) Corp. (Nasdaq:INFS) (OSE:IFC), the worldwide leader in digital projection, today announces its strategy for enabling IT professionals to manage and control multiple projectors on the corporate network. InFocus' strategy is the only one in the market that allows organizations to manage both existing and future InFocus Corp. projectors to extend the capabilities of the IT staff and reduce total cost of ownership.
According to IDC, nearly 30 percent of large corporations have an installed base of 20 or more projectors. Now that projectors are ubiquitous in many Fortune 2000 companies and educational and government facilities, streamlined projector management is a necessity for IT managers; and InFocus is providing the solution.
The InFocus solution uses a "plug-in" to existing IT software to remotely monitor, control and troubleshoot multiple projectors on the corporate network and is fully compatible with existing and future system projectors from InFocus Corp. This capability will reduce the total cost of ownership by helping companies extend the life of their projectors, prevent theft, avoid projector downtime and provide warnings on maintenance issues such as low lamp life remaining. In addition, corporations need not purchase new projectors to realize the benefits because of the solution's legacy compatibility.
"InFocus recognizes that projectors have become a key corporate IT asset and need to be made more manageable through network control," said David Woolf, director, product management, InFocus. "We have worked closely with our global customers to address their needs and have developed the most comprehensive, standards-based projector management solution in the industry."
Digital projectors from InFocus' line of InFocus-, Proxima- and ASK-brands can be hooked up to the network either through a built-in network interface connector (NIC), or through an adapter which connects to legacy products from InFocus through the RS-232 port. InFocus software is installed on the server and a helpdesk PC, from which all networked projectors can be accessed. Compliance with Microsoft Management Console enables integration with existing systems management software.
The InFocus solution is the only one in the market that is not only standards based, but fully compatible with existing and future products. This solution will enable significant cost savings in managing and maintaining multiple projectors in an organization and will be available in Q1 2002.
