Emulex 2Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs Now Qualified By EMC
For All Sun Microsystems Server Environments,
including PCI, SBus, and cPCI
Emulex Corporation (Nasdaq:EMLX), the world's leading supplier of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), announced today that EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC) has qualified the Emulex LP9002S SBus and LP9002C CompactPCI (cPCI) HBAs to provide storage area network connectivity for EMC's Symmetrix enterprise storage systems. These qualifications, in addition to EMC's previous qualification of Emulex's PCI-based LP9002L, enable EMC customers to utilize Emulex HBAs to provide host connectivity for all Sun Microsystems' server environments, including PCI, SBus, and its latest cPCI-based servers. The qualifications represent the completion of extensive testing performed with Solaris-based servers, and reflect EMC's support of customers using Emulex HBAs.
"EMC has completed its e-Lab Tested qualification of Emulex HBAs across all Sun server platforms, further expanding the interoperability of EMC and Emulex systems across a SAN environment," said Chuck Hollis, Vice President of Markets and Products at EMC. "EMC's qualification of Emulex HBAs provides additional performance, flexibility and interoperability for complex SAN environments."
Emulex's LP9002S and LP9002C HBAs are designed to support SBus- and CompactPCI-based servers, respectively, and both HBAs are capable of supporting data transfer rates of up to 2Gb/s over Fibre Channel networks. EMC's qualification of the Emulex LP9002S and LP9002C follows the company's recent qualification of Emulex's LP9002L 2Gb/s Fibre Channel HBA for use with PCI-based servers.
"Emulex offers comprehensive Fibre Channel connectivity for SBus, cPCI and PCI Solaris systems," said Kirk Roller, chief operating officer for Emulex. "Our long-term work with EMC is a key reason for the technology and market leadership that has enabled Emulex to ship in excess of 500,000 Fibre Channel HBAs, more than any other supplier in the industry."
The Emulex Family of Host Bus Adapters
The Emulex family of HBAs offers high performance, standards-based connectivity solutions for both Fibre Channel and Internet protocol (IP) storage networking environments. Emulex host bus adapters provide a unique combination of features required for mission-critical enterprise environments that deliver reliability, high bandwidth, server CPU offload, low latency and scalable connectivity.
The Emulex LightPulse family of Fibre Channel HBAs offers full fabric support, high data integrity, full-duplex operation, data buffering for up to 100km of cabling and support for all Fibre Channel topologies. The Emulex LightPulse family of Fibre Channel products includes the 2Gb/s LP9002L and LP952L, low profile HBAs, the 2Gb/s LP9002C CompactPCI HBA, the 2Gb/s LP9002S SBus-based HBA and the market-leading LP8000.
The Emulex family of IP-based storage networking host bus adapters includes the recently announced GN9000/SI iSCSI host bus adapter, the GN9000/VI VI/IP host bus adapter, the CL1000 HBA and CL5000/5300 cluster switches. The Emulex GN9000/SI is designed to provide the high performance iSCSI connectivity over gigabit Ethernet for PCI-based systems. The Emulex GN9000/VI VI/IP HBA enables network attached storage (NAS) appliances and hosts to exchange file system data over IP networks, while gaining the high throughput, low latency and reduced CPU overhead benefits of the virtual interface (VI) architecture.
