Fairchild Semiconductor Enters ALVC Market to Meet High Performance Needs of Growing Low Voltage Market

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 2001
100 percent compatible with current industry specifications, new
ALVC products also offered without bushold allowing designers to
utilize a power saving option
Solidifying itself as a leader in the low voltage logic market, Fairchild Semiconductor International (NYSE: FCS) today released 45 new ALVC devices and immediately priced the new family below competitive products. Today's announcement positions Fairchild as one of only three suppliers able to offer customers a complete line of low voltage products that address all market segments.
Fairchild's line of 45 ALVC devices are 100 percent compatible with existing ALVC specifications, including fast, 3 ns prop delays at 3.3V -- ideal for applications that demand high-speed memory access, such as the latest generation of servers and workstations.
Building on its reputation for innovation, Fairchild has enhanced its ALVC product family to offer designers devices both with and without bushold. Fairchild's product line provides designers power savings critical to applications such as PDAs and notebooks, where even slight power savings is important. Using a device without bushold saves about 500(mu)A per I/O on a 16-bit device; this represents up to 8mA of current.
In traditional applications, the bushold circuit technique holds an IC device input in its last known state - high or low - regardless of fluctuating line-voltage episodes. The internal bushold circuitry eliminates the need for an external pull-up resistor. However, the same circuitry also dissipates power even when it's not needed. Fairchild's solutions allow designers to choose between utilizing the bushold function for traditional designs, or increasing power savings by selecting ALVC devices without bushold.
Fairchild's family of ALVC products also addresses the confusion often encountered in logic procurement. Due to the variety of names used to identify logic families within the industry, today's announcement enables simplified identification and ordering.
Pricing begins at the following per piece in quantities of 10,000 pieces.
74ALVCH16244 $0.72
74ALVCH245 $0.36
74ALVC00 $0.18
