Networking to the PC
Actiontec Electronics, Inc., a leading manufacturer of broadband-based application and Internet access products, has announced that their USB 802.11b Wireless Adapter and their PCMCIA 802.11b Wireless Card will be available in the United Kingdom starting in December.
Going wireless has never been easier. The new adapter and PC card will work with any desktop or notebook computer that has a USB or Type II PCMCIA port, allowing users to share Internet access, printers and files at up to 11 megabytes per second and at distances ranging from 30 meters indoors to 90 meters outdoors.
The Actiontec USB 802.11b Wireless Adapter allows you to effortlessly and easily connect any computer with an available USB port into a wireless network. The adapter is "plug and play", which means it virtually installs itself in any Microsoft Windows environment using the plug and play protocol. Plus, it has a small form factor which is easy to carry or can be mounted on a wall.
In addition, the PCMCIA 802.11b Wireless Card will extend their network to any notebook computer with a Type II PCMCIA port and is designed to work with the USB adapter and other products based on 802.11b technology.
The Actiontec USB 802.11b Wireless Adapters and PCMCIA 802.11b Wireless Cards surpass other broadband products because they're easy to use, easy to set up and offer many exciting features:
-- Transfer network data at speeds up to 11 Mbps. Trading documents, videos and music files have never been easier. Access printers and other peripherals wirelessly from any computer on your network. -- Access the Internet from multiple computers at the same time. -- The amazingly small USB Wireless Adapter case is perfect for networking on the go.
"The versatility of these new wireless adapters allows virtually anyone to set up their own wireless network with minimum effort," stated Clive Hudson, General Manager for European Operations for Actiontec Electronics. "And, since they're 802.11b compliant, they will work within any network using that protocol."
The Actiontec USB 802.11b Wireless Adapter and PCMCIA 802.11b Wireless Card are compatible with any computer or network running Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, NT 4.0, Windows ME or Windows 2000 and supports ad-hoc networking with other wireless devices and other 802.11b compliant access points.
