NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 27, 2001

McGraw-Hill Education today announced that Julie McGee, an experienced educational publishing executive, will become president of Basal and Test Publishing, a newly formed group which includes its elementary, secondary and testing operations.

Ms. McGee, whose past positions have included executive vice president of educational publishing at Scholastic, and president of leading secondary school publisher McDougal Littell, will oversee McGraw-Hill Education's elementary and secondary school publishing units, Glencoe/McGraw-Hill and Macmillan/McGraw-Hill, and its assessment unit, CTB/McGraw-Hill. Presidents of those units, Steven McClung, Roger Rogalin and David Taggart, will report to Ms. McGee, and she will report to Buzz Ellis, president of the School Education Group.

A former secondary school and college instructor, Ms. McGee has over 20 years of experience in education and publishing. In addition to Scholastic, she has held senior management and editorial positions at McDougal Littell. Among her many accomplishments at McDougal Littell, Ms. McGee led the successful integration of the company with Houghton Mifflin, and successfully expanded print and technology-based product lines and imprints to increase sales.

"The addition of Julie McGee strengthens our management team and will enable us to better leverage our core elementary, secondary and assessment units. In an educational environment increasingly driven by assessments, opportunities exist to strengthen and create innovative instructional materials that improve student performance," said Robert Evanson, president of McGraw-Hill Education. "Julie has a strong track record of developing educational materials in multiple formats that respond to market needs and deliver results for students.

"Julie's lifetime passion for education will be an asset to the McGraw-Hill Education team. She brings a unique blend of traditional publishing experience and understanding of the role of technology in education to her new post. As we look to the future and the increasing role of electronic solutions in schools, her experience and perspective will play a significant role in positioning our business for continued success," Evanson said.

McGraw-Hill Education is a unit of The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP), a global information services provider meeting worldwide needs in the financial services, education and business information markets through leading brands such as Standard & Poor's and Business Week.
