DTE Energy Services (Ann Arbor, Mich.), the unregulated Private Energy Producer (PEP) arm of DTE Energy Company (NYSE:DTE) (Detroit), is adding four 80 mega-watt (MW) units at sister company Detroit Edison's (Detroit) Belle River Power Station. The new units will be natural gas-fired simple-cycle General Electric GE Model 7EA's.
The units will provide peaking power to the wholesale grid for the Michigan, Midwest and Ontario markets utilizing Detroit Edison transmission facilities. The natural gas will be provided by a Vector gas pipeline, which is also partly owned by DTE Energy. Construction started in August 2001 and will be completed by the end of May 2002.
DTE Energy was created in 1903. DTE employs over 10,500 people, has assets in excess of $17 billion and can generate over 11,300MW. DTE Energy Services was created in 1994 to handle the new deregulated market.
