California Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency Launches One-Stop Web Site with Services for Business

Business Wire, Nov 5, 2001

Business/Technology Editors

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 2001

Agency is first to fully integrate Governor's e-government initiative with newly designed site at www.commerce.ca.gov

The California Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency (TTCA) unveiled its new one-stop Web site today, providing dynamic access for business attraction and development, job retention, and international trade and investment services online. The new site at www.commerce.ca.gov was constructed using the state's e-government vision announced earlier this year by Governor Gray Davis.

TTCA--aided by Deloitte Consulting--is responding to the needs of its constituents, from global corporations to small businesses, by providing vital services in a more user-friendly, interactive, and convenient online environment. The information has been regrouped for easier access, and a virtual office with specialized tools is now available for businesses anytime, day or night.

"California is the most vibrant and attractive place to do business in the country, and the TTCA is extremely focused on delivering that message to companies," said Lon S. Hatamiya, Secretary of the Agency. "If companies need a fast, direct link to organizations and services this site can help them quickly find the information they need to confidently, and confidentially, make decisions and move ahead."

In September 2000, the Governor of California announced an "e-government" initiative designed to use the power of technology to bring state government closer to California citizens and businesses. Then, in an Executive Order, the Governor called for the development of a new state government portal that offers a one-stop access point for all state government information and services. The TTCA is the first California agency to fully implement the state's e-government vision on its Web site.

Deloitte Consulting also worked with the state of California to develop its award-winning "My California" Web site. "My California" topped a record 400 state and local government Web site entries to win top honors in this year's seventh annual Best of the Web contest, conducted by the Center for Digital Government and Government Technology Magazine.

The TTCA serves as California's primary governmental vehicle for the promotion of innovation, investment and economic opportunity. In 2000, the state's $1.4-trillion economy advanced from the world's sixth largest economy to the fifth largest as a result of the diversity of California's industries that helped insulate it from the worldwide economic downturn. As the fifth largest economy in the world, California also serves as a prime global gateway for trade and investment in the United States.

Deloitte Consulting, one of the world's largest consulting firms, worked with the TTCA to integrate and execute its agency-wide Internet strategy for the site. The firm's services included redesigning the look and navigation of the TTCA Web site and building the new site using the My California portal technology. As part of the new design, all information on the TTCA Web site now resides in a database. That makes the Web site more dynamic, interactive, efficient and customer-friendly, because it is constantly updated to meet the needs of a fast changing world of information. The technology that enables the TTCA site includes software from Oracle(R) Corporation, BroadVision, Inc., and Interwoven, Inc.

Michael Rutledge, senior manager with Deloitte Consulting, led the firm's efforts for the state agency. Commenting on the launch of the improved site, Rutledge noted, "TTCA now has in place a flexible platform for its ongoing Web development as well as a more user-focused structure. TTCA's site has numerous features that can support companies and citizens in California and across the country; and we are fortunate to have been allowed to assist the Agency in its development."
