SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 2001
Fairchild Semiconductor International (NYSE:FCS) announces the FMS9884A-175, a 3-channel high-speed 8-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) optimized for delivering superior picture quality in high-end computer graphics display/monitor applications.
The converter was first made available in 2000 as the FMS9884A, which offered 100MSPS and 140MSPS versions popular in LCD monitors, projectors, digital video and medical imaging systems. Now available in a 175MSPS version, the FMS9884A-175's architecture optimizes and encodes the analog RGB signal, prior to formatting for display, on the new-generation flat panel displays and projector systems. The FMS9884A-175 converts images up to 1600 x 1200-pixel (SXGA) resolution at 65Hz rates, or up to 1600 x 1200 pixels at 85Hz using alternate-pixel sampling. This enhanced device is totally compatible with existing products, but offers equivalent or better performance. Because it comes in a 128-lead MQFP package, the FMS9884A-175 provides the lowest parts count and is the most competitively priced option of its kind.
Key design technologies featured in the FMS9884A-175 include an adaptive PLL (phased-lock loop), generating a very low-jitter pixel clock, which is critical to achieving sharp, crystal-clear images. The device also features an onboard voltage reference, single or dual-port digital outputs, input clamps and programmable variable-gain amplifiers to optimize the input signal range. In addition to being a fully compatible second-source part, the FMS9884A-175 is designed with a completely new architecture that improves upon the original device. Fairchild's Mixed-Signal design team continues working with customers to offer high-speed data converter solutions, keeping ease-of-use and integration in mind.
Fairchild offers customers an evaluation board and software package to simplify testing, integrating and configuring the FMS9884A-175 for specific applications.
