Taiwan's Largest Telecom Operator Deploys Foundry's Complete
Internet Data Center Solution to Enhance Service
Performance, Reliability, and Capacity
Foundry Networks(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, announced today that it has been chosen by Chunghwa Telecom to provide a complete end-to-end infrastructure solution for Chunghwa's Internet Data Center (IDC) in Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan, to significantly enhance performance, reliability, and capacity. The deployment will include Foundry's NetIron(R) Internet routers, BigIron(R) Layer 3 switches, ServerIron(R) Layer 4 - 7 Web switches, and FastIron(R) 4802 Layer 2/3 switches.
As the largest telecommunication carrier in Taiwan, Chunghwa Telecom is aggressively driving Taiwan's telecom infrastructure expansion by leveraging next-generation network technologies to increase operational efficiency and service delivery. Chunghwa Telecom is focused on delivering enhanced broadband and value-added services such as DSL, integrated data, voice and video applications, and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to the Taiwanese market.
Chunghwa Telecom has deployed Foundry's NetIron Internet routers in the backbone, its industry-leading BigIron Layer 3 switches as the traffic aggregation switches, and its new 3rd generation ASIC-based FastIron 4802 Layer 2/3 switches at the network access layer to provide superior service availability and performance in its Taipei IDC. In addition, Foundry's ServerIron(R) 400 chassis-based Layer 4 - 7 Web switches were deployed to front-end Web server farms at Chunghwa's Web hosting operations.
"We worked closely with Foundry to provide Chunghwa Telecom with an industry-leading, complete end-to-end networking solution that would deliver Internet connectivity and Web hosting services with a robust, highly scalable and reliable network infrastructure for Chunghwa's data center in Taipei," said Philix Shih, CEO of Ring Line Corporation. "Foundry's Internet routing and rich Layer 3 and Layer 4 - 7 functionalities will enable Chunghwa Telecom to proactively manage its network performance, distribute content intelligently and maintain high service availability. Foundry's solutions provide a high-performance infrastructure to deliver unmatched performance that will meet the capacity and reliability needs of Chunghwa Telecom's current and future customers," continued Shih.
Foundry's NetIron Internet routers provide Chunghwa Telecom with superior routing performance, carrier-class reliability and redundancy, Internet-strength scalability, extensive management control, and robust functionality. The BigIron Layer 3 switches are used for high density Gigabit aggregation with dual homing connections to the backbone network and Gigabit Ethernet trunking to provide bandwidth for critical applications. In addition, Chunghwa Telecom has deployed Foundry's new FastIron 4802 Layer 2/3 switches to provide rate-limiting capabilities in the access networks as well as Foundry's ServerIron Layer 4 - 7 Web switches to provide server load balancing.
"Foundry is committed to delivering the leading next-generation, end-to-end networking solutions to telecommunication service providers looking to build next-generation IP backbone networks that will help them to deliver new revenue-generating services today," said Bobby Johnson, president and CEO of Foundry Networks. "By implementing Foundry's world-class Internet data center solutions, Chunghwa Telecom can deliver broadband services to its business and residential customers cost-effectively."
