BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15, 2001

The California Energy Commission (CEC) has announced it will hold an Oct. 29 informational hearing and site visit for the Magnolia Power Project (MPP) being proposed for operation at Burbank Water and Power's (BWP) electric generating station complex in Burbank by mid-2004.

The CEC meeting will begin with a 4 p.m. walking site tour and be followed by a 5:30 p.m. informational hearing in the lobby of the BWP headquarters building, located at 164 W. Magnolia Blvd. in Burbank. Both the site tour and hearing are open to the public, and the CEC will receive public comments during the informational hearing.

"This meeting is the first of several being planned by the CEC as it processes the MPP licensing documents through an extended review period before commissioners consider final project approval in 2002," said Ron Davis, BWP general manager.

The CEC event will begin with a walking tour of the three-acre site, located on the northeast area of the BWP complex, and be followed by project presentations and public comments during the informational hearing.

"MPP is being proposed by Burbank and six other cities to provide a local, reliable and efficient electricity resource through installation of a clean, natural gas-fueled power plant," Davis said.

During the meeting, the CEC is expected to outline a series of additional opportunities for public input into MPP's state licensing review process. When scheduled, these additional dates will be publicized through the local news media and listed on the CEC's Web site at www.energy.ca.org. Additional project information is available on the MPP homepage at www.scppa.org or at any Burbank city library.
