AMSTERDAM, Netherlands--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2001
KPN, (Euronext Amsterdam: KPN.) the largest telecommunications company in the Netherlands, is providing 400,000 customers with secured and controlled access to its Website and its personalized service, MyKPN, through Entrust GetAccess software provided by Entrust, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTU), a leading global provider of enhanced Internet security, it was announced today.
MyKPN is a personalized service area that enables customers to check their phone bills, control telecom facilities, and view account details online using Entrust GetAccess for single sign-on, authentication and session management.
One of KPN's primary goals is to streamline processes and reduce sales costs, administrative expenses and delivery charges. For end-users, one of the most successful aspects has been the opportunity to easily and conveniently manage invoices and payments online.
KPN currently receives more than one million page requests per day and expects the user base to reach far beyond the 400,000 by the end of the year.
"Scalability and performance were important given the number of customers we expect to use the Website," said Arnold Hoogerwerf, technology manager from KPN said. "Entrust was able to demonstrate the success of its access control software in other large enterprise businesses, including telecommunications and banking."
Hoogerwerf went on to say, "Entrust GetAccess was chosen because it offered easy-to-deploy, easy-to-use, state-of-the-art technology that is interoperable with our existing infrastructure. The initial installment was completed within two weeks and the system is performing well."
"Entrust GetAccess already has a significant presence in the European region, and this is a significant step for Entrust in the Web access control market," said Jose Lopez, lead European security analyst at Frost & Sullivan. "Entrust GetAccess is highly complementary to the Internet security solutions Entrust is delivering to customers."
Hans Ydema, the managing director of Entrust Central Europe, said, "Every company that wants to do business over the Internet wants to drive traffic online, and that makes scalability and the easy administration of large numbers of users crucial. KPN's decision to use Entrust's Web access control over competing solutions is a great example of Internet security operating at an enterprise level.
"State-of-the-art Internet security is not just a technical add-on, it can be a business enabler, saving companies time and money," Ydema added. "KPN's primary concern was using its Website to cut costs and streamline its processes, and we are delighted that we have been able to help the company achieve its goal."
"As more companies look to provide secured access to the Web, the granting of entitlements or secured access control to confidential information will be crucial," said Bill Conner, Entrust president and chief executive officer. "Entrust GetAccess meets these needs in a scalable, high-performance and efficient manner, while drawing from the Entrust heritage of strong, proven security management."
