Interactive Intelligence Demonstrates New SIP-Enabled Software
Prototype for Enterprises, Contact Centers and Service Providers
Interactive Intelligence Inc. (Nasdaq:ININ) previewed its Session Initiation Protocol-enabled interaction management software running on Microsoft Windows XP operating system last week at Fall 2001 Voice on the Net conference in Atlanta.
The new software is designed to take advantage of converged networks in order to help enterprises and contact centers reduce costs and increase scalability, and to enable service providers to generate additional revenue based on new service offerings.
Windows XP is Microsoft's new operating system for desktop and laptop PCs. It includes the Windows Messenger feature, a SIP-based real-time communications client that provides text instant messaging, video calls, file exchange, and collaboration, and allows users to conduct voice calls over IP networks such as corporate LANs and WANs, and across the Internet.
Interactive Intelligence's interaction management software is based on an open, unified communications platform designed as a simple, cost-effective alternative to traditional telecommunications solutions. The software includes a variety of applications, including multimedia routing and queuing, interactive voice response, unified messaging and presence management.
Interactive Intelligence plans to make its SIP-enabled software generally available in December 2001. It will run on Windows XP, in addition to SIP-based products from other vendors.
SIP is a new Internet engineering task force standard for a signaling protocol that establishes real-time calls and conferences over Internet protocol networks. A SIP session can include different types of data such as audio and video. The SIP protocol enables personal mobility by providing the capability to reach a called party at a single location-independent address.
"Microsoft's SIP-based advanced routing and name resolution functionality, along with its soft phone that provides superior audio quality and network access, adds incredible value to our first SIP-enabled software offering," Dr. Donald E. Brown, president and chief executive officer for Interactive Intelligence, said.
"Microsoft is pleased that Interactive Intelligence is enhancing the Windows XP experience by providing SIP-based interaction management software for Windows XP," Shawn Sanford, group product manager for Windows XP at Microsoft Corp., said. "The combination of Windows XP and Interactive Intelligence software will give users a wide array of sophisticated communications applications."
Interactive Intelligence first broke ground in the contact center market in 1997 with a new "all-in-one" Windows-based interaction management software product today in use by more than 800 companies worldwide. The award-winning software is based on the company's Interaction Center Platform(TM), an open, unified communications platform designed to replace proprietary devices such as PBXs, interactive voice response systems, automatic call distributors, fax servers, voice mail systems, Web gateways and computer telephony integration middleware.
