CALGARY, Alberta--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 2001
Cquay Inc., a provider of location intelligence for the enterprise(TM), today announced the completion of a comprehensive Performance and Scalability Initiative that validates the scalability of the Common Ground(R) Service Platform.
To support on-line location intelligence services and the anticipated delivery of 300 transactions per second from a large-scale location database, Cquay requires a high-performance, scalable, application architecture and infrastructure. "The Performance and Scalability Initiative addressed this requirement and validated the core application architecture and scalability/performance assumptions," declared Gerrit Boerman, Cquay's director of e-Service Delivery.
The Performance and Scalability Initiative was conducted by Cquay with significant assistance from various strategic partners and vendors, including Burntsand, Sun, EMC and Oracle.
Testing and validation of the architecture took place through an engagement with Burntsand, in their Authorized iForce(SM) Ready Center. iForce Ready Centers are the foundation of Sun Microsystems' iForce initiative, a far-reaching program that brings together under one umbrella all of Sun's dot-com programs, products, services and solutions aimed at customers ranging from startups to large enterprises. Sun Microsystems of Canada Inc. arranged for support from Sun and Oracle via the Sun Oracle Application Technology Center (SOATC), to provide a design review of the high-availability Common Ground infrastructure. SOATC is a joint venture between Sun and Oracle with the goal of delivering proven performance and sizing recommendations to customers using Sun/Oracle Applications.
"Burntsand's state-of-the art facility, with support from the other strategic partners, provided Cquay with a robust, multi-vendor, environment for systematic testing," explains Calvin McElroy, CEO for Cquay. "As a result of our work with the iForce Ready Center, we confirmed that the Common Ground platform and our proprietary location object caching technology will enable us to achieve our performance targets."
"Cquay certainly proved to be an interesting customer for the iForce Ready Center. Cquay's infrastructure requirements were quite unique and went well beyond traditional web-application standards," observed Dave Edmonds, co-founder and VP of Burntsand Inc.
EMC provided their proven Storage Area Network (SAN) and Enterprise Storage technology and expertise, and created an environment to host the large-scale Common Ground database, within the iForce Ready Center.
The Performance & Scalability Initiative, including the learnings from the iForce Ready Center, culminated in a new release of Common Ground on October 23rd, 2001 and provides Cquay the foundation for future scalable deployment.
Other current Cquay e-Service Delivery initiatives include the selection of a Storage Area Network technology vendor and a Managed Service provider, to provide the infrastructure to support Common Ground deployment in the United States.
