TMSSequoia Prizm Document Image Viewing Plug-in Version 4.2 Released; Now Supports Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2 and 6.0

Business Wire, Oct 29, 2001

Business Editors

STILLWATER, Okla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 2001

TMSSequoia(TM) (OTC Bulletin Board:TMSS) today announced the release of the Prizm(R) plug-in for Windows, a web-based imaging plug-in version 4.2 which supports Microsoft Internet Explorer(R) Browser versions 6.0 and 5.5 Service Pack 2 using ActiveX(R) technology. The Prizm Plug-in is the industry leader in plug-in viewing support for corporate end users, allowing them to annotate, view and print document images seamlessly through Netscape 4.0-4.7x and Internet Explorer 4.5-6.x web browsers on Windows 95/98/NT/2000 and XP systems.

"Microsoft has recommended upgrading to IE 5.5 Service Pack 2 and IE 6.0 in order to access security patches that make user systems less vulnerable to malicious viruses like Nimda. This recommendation came in conjunction with the abrupt removal of support for Netscape style plug-ins with the release of Service Pack 2," said Vaughn Henson, TMSSequoia senior product manager. "Our challenge has been to provide the same robust functionality our users expect using ActiveX technology quickly and completely, as many of our users are upgrading their browsers across the enterprise as a result of security concerns."

"TMSSequoia is committed to supporting our installed base of over 1 million plug-in users by providing them with the tools to annotate, view and print document images through the browser of their choice," said Debbie Klarfeld, TMSSequoia vice president and general manager, component products division. "We are extremely proud that the new version of the Prizm plug-in, using an ActiveX adaptor, provides full functionality in the new Internet Explorer browser environment while continuing to support Internet Explorer versions 4.5 through 5.5 Service Pack 1 as well as our many Netscape browser users."

Batch Printing and Collaboration

The Prizm plug-in offers unique functionality to companies that provide document images over the Internet. Virtual multipage documents use List Files to allow users the convenience of viewing and printing batches of documents without the overhead of a traditional multi-page TIFF file. Batch printing is supported on corporate intranets as well as secure and authenticated servers. In addition, the Prizm plug-in supports collaboration with a full set of annotation tools, allowing end users to view, edit, print and delete annotations based on permissions.

One Click Installation from the Web

"With our single-click installation, the Prizm plug-in elegantly addresses one of the chief objections IT professionals have to plug-ins in general -- the deployment difficulties inherent in supporting a large workforce," said Henson. "Using single-click installation, end users can download and install the plug-in from a web page without exiting their browser." The single-click installation feature is available as part of the Prizm Web Server Samples. Prizm Web Server Samples enable large corporate users to implement the full feature set of Prizm plug-in quickly and easily and include CGI and ASP based Annotation Web Servers, a single-click Batch Printing sample and other user profile identification and handling ASP examples.

The Prizm plug-in version 4.2 supports TIFF single or multi-page images in these formats: uncompressed, modified Huffman, Group 3 1-D & 2-D, Group 4, and PackBits, as well as JPEG, CALS Type 1, PCX, BMP, GIF and JEDMICS. Support for other platforms The Prizm plug-in version 4.2 with OCR, which includes patented ScanFix(R) image enhancement technology to clean images for optimum OCR results is scheduled to release later this year with support for IE 5.5 SP2 and IE 6.0. Versions of the Prizm plug-in are available for the Mac and UNIX platforms for those companies who require multiple platform support. The plug-in is supported on five UNIX platforms (Sun Solaris, HP UX, AIX, SGI, and DEC Alpha), where it is generally used in engineering applications due to its unparalleled ability to open large engineering drawings quickly and reliably. Feature sets for the Mac and UNIX platforms are available on the TMSSequoia website at www.tmsinc.com.
