Supply Chain Asset Management Leader Releases
SmartSeal(TM) Solution; Integrates Real-Time
Security and Software Monitoring to Enhance Asset Security
Savi Technology, Inc, a leading provider of supply chain asset management and logistics collaboration solutions, today announced during the annual American Society for Industrial Security seminar and exhibit in San Antonio the availability of its new SmartSeal(TM) system for securing and monitoring all major types of freight transportation containers, including airfreight ULDs, intermodal ocean-going containers, truck trailers and railcars. With SmartSeal(TM), freight handlers, shippers, logistics service providers, customs agents, and security officials can readily ensure the security of the transportation container and the integrity of its contents.
"Ensuring the security of freight has always been a concern, but it has become even more critical in light of recent events," said Adrian Gonzalez, senior analyst for the ARC Advisory Group. "Savi's SmartSeal solution is a timely response to this issue. The solution should appeal to companies that ship high-value or regulated products, such as electronics and chemicals."
The SmartSeal(TM) solution, under development for a year, has been successfully tested by a major U.S. computer manufacturer, at an international border-crossing in North Asia, and the United States Department of Defense. SmartSeal(TM) is a hardware and software module that extends the functionality of the company's new Asset Management System application.
Savi's Asset Management System software allows enterprises and logistics service providers to automatically track, manage and secure the assets, conveyances, and other equipment that are critical to their business. Savi SmartSeal(TM) comprises additional command and control features to provide integrated real-time alerts and enable automated response to unauthorized tampering of secured assets.
Real-time data is collected through a specially designed RFID tag made available by Savi or its partners that is used to seal and secure the container after it has been packed and inspected. Once secured, the SmartSeal(TM) tag can electronically detect and report any tampering activity, enabling continuous monitoring of the security status of the shipment. Savi SmartSeal(TM) tag's rugged industrial design makes it virtually impossible to counterfeit or circumvent, and its encrypted communications protocol ensures that its signals cannot be replicated.
With the Savi SmartSeal(TM) solution, all types of cargo containers can be packed, inspected and sealed at the time of loading and continuously monitored during transport with Savi's Asset Management System. If the container is tampered with at any time during transportation, the system will issue an alert. The container can then be isolated and inspected or prevented from being loaded or moved.
The Savi SmartSeal(TM) solution is based on Savi Technology's extensive experience in developing real-time secured logistics infrastructure and software that allow the U.S. Department of Defense to securely manage their global logistics. This wireless logistics Network, the most extensive in the world, currently tracks the location and security of over 250,000 assets daily as they move through over 350 locations in 30 countries.
"Concern about the safety and security of air cargo, shipping containers, trucks, and railcars, has justifiably led to increased inspections and other security procedures that inevitably create delays and increased uncertainty of supply chains," said Vic Verma, president and CEO of Savi Technology. "With Savi SmartSeal, we can help ensure the security and integrity of each shipping container, giving shippers and carriers greater peace of mind while reducing or even eliminating the need for manual inspections and helping the global supply chains become more reliable and efficient."
