SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 2001

Wily Technology, the leader in Java Web Application Management, today announced that it has extended the capability of Introscope, its unique performance management platform, with SQL Agent, the first of its Introscope Agent family of products. SQL Agent works with Introscope to deliver performance visibility into the database down to the individual SQL statement. Leveraging Introscope's ability to monitor production Java applications at the component level, SQL Agent reports essential database performance data into the Introscope management platform by tracking the interactivity between the managed Java application and the database. In addition to providing detailed information about JDBC connections, SQL Agent can measure the performance of individual SQL statements and pinpoint the exact statement that may be causing performance problems.

"When it comes to system bottlenecks, databases have traditionally been a central focus of concern for IT personnel," said Vic Nyman, Wily's vice-president of marketing. "We've found that looking at the problem from just the database perspective is not enough. SQL Agent combines Introscope's component-level visibility into the application with the ability to look at individual SQL statements to pinpoint exactly which query is slow and under what load conditions the slowdown occurs. With Introscope and SQL Agent, our customers now have the ability to manage the performance of their entire infrastructure from the heart of it all -- the application's itself."

In the same way that Introscope monitors Web applications, SQL Agent is non-intrusive and does not interfere with the application or the database. In addition to measuring the deep correlation between the application server and the database, SQL Agent offers historic reporting for trend analysis and seamless integration with Introscope, making it easy for IT personnel to fine-tune and optimize the performance of their entire system.

SQL Agent Features

Detailed SQL Performance Monitoring of

-- Individual SQL Statements

-- Dynamic, Prepared and Generic SQL Statements

Enhanced JDBC Monitoring of

-- JDBC Connection Counts

-- Commits and Rollbacks

Seamless Integration with Introscope

-- Zero Development Effort

-- Inherits Introscope features such as Blame, Persistence,

Alerts and Actions

SQL Agent is an add-on module of Introscope, Wily's comprehensive performance solution that manages the entire system by analyzing performance from within the application itself. By working from the inside out, Introscope manages the performance of third party Java-based applications running on an application server platform, JDBC(TM) database connections, distributed requests (RMI and CORBA) and can pinpoint the exact cause of any performance bottlenecks whether an internal Java-based application component (Servlet, EJB, method) or an external interface such as the security server or database.
