ArcStream Solutions, a wireless consulting and systems integration firm, and AvantGo, Inc. (Nasdaq: AVGO), the leading provider of enterprise mobile solutions, today announced an alliance that combines ArcStream's expertise in wireless systems integration and higher education with AvantGo's expertise in delivering award-winning enterprise mobile software. The relationship enables companies to leverage ArcStream's depth of wireless knowledge and the AvantGo(R) M-Business Server to effectively develop solutions targeted at higher education. ArcStream will resell AvantGo M-Business software and services for this market. Harvard Medical School and Florida State University College of Medicine are among the institutions working with ArcStream and AvantGo to deliver handheld-based education solutions.
At Harvard Medical School, the MyCourses(TM) Mobile application developed by ArcStream is deployed on the AvantGo M-Business Server. "I definitely find that the MyCourses(TM) Mobile application conveniently maximizes my time as a medical student," said Jeffrey Chung '04, Harvard Medical School. "It allows me to access important course material daily while I am in transit to the hospital or classes, and I especially enjoy not having to input course contact information myself--the application saves me a lot of time and makes me more productive."
ArcStream selected AvantGo technology for the solution because it meets the specific needs of higher education, extending the classroom to mobile devices through an easy-to-use interface for students and administrators. The secure solution can be rapidly deployed, integrates easily with back-end systems for data access, and provides always-available access to mobile information services through wireless networks and desktop synchronization. AvantGo solutions support the Dynamic Mobility Model(TM), enabling seamless connectivity and access to information through any wireless service, mobile device and connectivity option, saving schools the time and cost of designing separate solutions for different platforms.
"We have teamed up with ArcStream to deliver advanced wireless solutions to a population that is intrinsically mobile - students - whose learning experience is greatly enhanced with mobile technology," said Richard Owen, AvantGo's CEO. "We have chosen ArcStream as a partner because of its clear leadership and demonstrated ability in delivering mobile solutions for medical education."
"AvantGo's innovative, award-winning products deliver significant value in higher education, by enabling us to quickly and easily develop compelling applications that schools seek," said John Keane, CEO of ArcStream. "We are pleased to partner with such an innovative company to deliver quality mobile solutions for higher education."
