Nortel Networks Solution to Enable T-Mobile Germany to Offer New IP Services; Wireless Operator to Capitalize on Intelligent Multiservice Switch

T-Mobile Germany, the leading German wireless services operator, has selected Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT)(TSE:NT.) to supply a new, high-performance Frame Relay core network consisting of Passport 7480. This network will support T-Mobile's data communications needs as they evolve their network to deliver Internet Protocol (IP)-based GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) data services and later on UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) services across Germany.
The versatile, highly scalable Passport 7480 multiservice switch will enable T-Mobile to maximize bandwidth efficiency and support evolution to a UMTS wireless voice and data network with a common infrastructure. A streamlined intelligent network and service management system will position T-Mobile to minimize operating costs and maximize customer service. The network will also support new, next generation wireless service offerings that can create new revenues.

Nortel Networks Passport 7480 multiservice switch offers high-performance cost savings, investment protection and management simplicity. Designed for the service provider environment, the flexible, scalable Passport portfolio is ideal for networks spanning from access adaptation to core backbone switching. It supports ATM, frame relay, IP VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), MPLS, circuit emulation (CES) and other voice and data services.
